Bills’ Rookie Hairston Faces Sexual Assault Lawsuit
Maxwell Hairston, a former Kentucky cornerback and recent first-round draft pick for the Buffalo Bills, is facing a civil lawsuit alleging sexual assault. The suit brings serious accusations against the rising NFL star.
Details of the Allegation
The civil complaint alleges that the incident occurred in 2021, while Hairston was a student at the University of Kentucky. The lawsuit claims Hairston engaged in non-consensual sexual contact with the plaintiff inside her dorm room.
Following the alleged incident, the woman reported it to law enforcement and subsequently transferred from the University of Kentucky. According to reports, the school investigated the matter at the time.
Bills’ Investigation and Response
The Buffalo Bills also conducted their own investigation into the allegations during the pre-draft process. Their investigation led them to conclude that Hairston was innocent of the accusations.
Despite the Bills’ internal review, the civil suit proceeds, adding to the legal challenges faced by NFL players. In 2023, roughly 20% of NFL players were involved in a civil or criminal case, highlighting the prevalence of off-the-field issues (Law.com).
Beane’s Defense of Hairston
Bills general manager Brandon Beane addressed the situation in April, defending the team’s pick.
โHeโs (Hairston) an impeccable kid, and we did a lot of research. I think all teams were aware of the Title IX thing. That was fully investigated by the school. He even volunteered to do a polygraph and had notes,โ

Beane further added:
โIt was one of those where there was zero information saying that this actually happened to what the accusation was… Every person you talk to at Kentucky, teammates, staff there, plus what weโve done, I would say this is a heck of a young man, every person you ask.”

Beane concluded,
โThatโs unfortunate when things like that are attached to someoneโs name. In this case, it doesnโt seem to be anything there.โ

Legal Proceedings
Notably, Hairston has not been criminally charged in connection with the alleged incident. The case is currently proceeding as a civil matter.
This is a developing story.
