Carlo Verdone‘s Mayoral Plans: A focus โonโ Rome’s Outskirts
Carlo Verdone is preparing to take on aโค unique role: honorary mayor of Rome โฃonโฃ November 17th, a tradition previously held byโ Alberto Sordi. However, Verdone intends to use this symbolic position to โhighlight issues beyond the city center, specifically focusing on the needs of Rome’s suburbs.
Acknowledging the current administration’s work in the central areas – noting that Mayor gualtieri “is doing well” despite some dimly lit โstreets (an โคissue Verdoneโฃ personally experienced while trying to reach a dinner with Sergio Rubini) – Verdone plans to dedicate his “mayoral” efforts toโ the periphery. He believes significant work is needed in โขthese areas, especially regarding improvements to public transportation and addressing issues of degradation.
verdone’s goal โis to โinspireโ civic pride within these neighborhoods, stating a need to “set a good example to make citizensโฃ love their โneighborhood again.” He also expressed concern over the aesthetic quality โof new constructions in Rome, โcontrasting it with the high standards of taste found elsewhere in Europe, lamenting aโ decline as the 1960s. He emphasized โItaly‘s historical reputation for “great taste” and a need to restore that standard.
This focusโค on the outskirts aligns with themes exploredโ in the fourth season of his โParamount+ series, “Vita da Carlo 4,” where his character takes onโฃ a role at โคthe Centroโฃ Sperimentale diโฃ Cinematografia, aiming to supportโค and provide opportunities for young talent. The series, directed with Icola Guaglianone and Menotti and Valerio Vestoso, follows Verdone’s character in self-imposed exileโ after a publicโ incident, and his subsequent attempt to reinvent himself.
