Australia Post to Resume Full US Shipping Services September 25 After Tariff Resolution
Sydney, Australia – Australia Post will resume shipping to the United States on September 25, resolving a weeks-long suspension caused by complex tariff rules and escalating shipping costs. The resumption follows the implementation of a new third-party platform, Zonos, wich allows Australia Post to comply with US import regulations.
The suspension, impacting a wide range of Australian businesses – including fashion brands and Etsy sellers – forced many to halt US orders. The issue stemmed from the requirement to electronically transmit detailed customs data for each item, a process Australia Post’s existing systems struggled to accommodate cost-effectively. The new zonos platform automates this process, enabling compliance and restoring shipping services.
Fashion label Apero pre-emptively paused US orders three weeks prior to the official suspension. “We’ve obviously lost revenue but that’s always the case with uncertainty,” Apero co-founder Laz Smith told ABC News.”That’s not necessarily Australia Post’s fault. They’ve been trying to get a solution working.”
australia Post now requires businesses to utilize Zonos to ship to the US. ”You can’t use Australia Post now unless you go with Zonos,” Smith explained, adding that Apero expects to resume accepting US orders by the end of the month.
The disruption highlighted the challenges faced by Australian businesses navigating international shipping complexities, particularly regarding US import regulations. smith expressed relief at the impending resolution, stating, “At least we’ll have certainty about Black Friday sales now.”
