MONTGOMERY, Ala. – aaron โคFrye threwโค for two touchdowns and ledโ No. 1 โClay-Chalkville to a decisive 35-7โข victory over โฃSaraland in โคtheโ Class 6A state championship game Friday night at Cramton bowl. The win secured Clay-Chalkville’sโค third state title โin program history and โขcapped offโ a dominantโ season for the Cougars.
Clay-Chalkville โขseized control early, โขpunctuatedโ by a โdramatic โข2-yard, fourth-down touchdown pass as time โฃexpired inโ the first โhalf. After halftime, the Spartans faced a second-and-32 following a botched snap,โค butโข Frye connected withโ Ray for 19 yards, followed by โa 15-yard run and a 37-yardโ touchdown passโฃ to โฃray on fourth-and-8,โ extending the lead toโ 24-7.
Joshua โwoods led the Clay-Chalkville groundโ attack with 66 yards โon 14 carries. Receivers โฃJacari Johnson (two receptionsโค for 77 yards and โขa TD) and Ray (three โขreceptions for 60 yards and a score) proved key targets for Frye. LSU signee โคcorey Barber added two receptions โคfor โ17โข yards. Defensively, Xavier Starks recorded 7 tackles, and Brayden butler contributed โ6.
Saraland’s offense was led by PJ Brown, whoโข rushed for โข36โ yards on 6 carries,โฃ and AJ Martin, who caught โคfourโ passes โforโ 63 yards and a โคtouchdown. Tamidrae Sewer anchored the Saraland defense with 9 tackles.
“You never know whatโฃ happens if you can put pressure on those guys, but we just โฃcouldn’t do it tonight,” said Saraland head coach Jeff Kelly.
Clay-Chalkville head coachโ Stuart Floyd celebrated a championship victory as a player, assistant coach, and now โhead coach at theโ school.”My coaching journey is nothing short of God putting me whereโฃ I couldn’t put myself,” Floyd said. “His ways are not my ways.
