PSG Wants €150m for Neymar Amid Transfer Speculations: Latest Updates

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com August 9, 2023
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

PSG may want €150m for Neymar. The Brazilian is said to be wanting to leave the Parisians.

Neymar has reportedly told PSG that he wants to leave the club this summer and return to Barcelona – the team he left to sign in Paris in 2017. Now AS claim the Parisians have informed the Brazil international they would not sell him for less than €150m.

However, the club are said to be open to a loan move in order to get Neymar’s salary off the payroll. That could open the door for Barca to sign the Brazilian, who is also traded among MLS clubs.

PSG is in a kind of crisis. The French are apparently trying to sell Kylian Mbappé and get a sizeable transfer fee for him so as not to lose him for nothing in 2024 when his contract expires. And Neymar wants to leave. The Brazilian has reportedly been unhappy at PSG since fans protested outside his home in May this year.

PSG start the season with a home game against Lorient on Saturday 12 August. With Mbappé left out of the squad, it remains to be seen whether he and Neymar will feature for the French any time soon, if at all.

Inter Miami Terminates Goalkeeper Nick Marsman’s Contract After Messi Transfer Criticism

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com August 8, 2023
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

Inter Miami have terminated the contract with goalkeeper Nick Marsman. This was preceded by criticism from Marsman of the transfer of Lionel Messi to the MLS club.

Co-owner David Beckham’s club recently said: “Inter Miami CF announced today that they have exercised an opportunity to buy out Major League Soccer (MLS) goalkeeper Nick Marsman’s contract.”

Marsman told ESPN in Junethat the club “are not ready for Messi’s arrival”. Specifically, he is primarily concerned with the safety conditions in the arena: “We play in a transitional stadium, the fans can simply walk onto the pitch and there are no barriers. We leave the stadium without security personnel.”

Marsman’s verdict was clear: “In my opinion, we are not ready.” But he didn’t stand in the way of a transfer: “Nevertheless, I hope he comes.”

In the MLS, each team can fire a player per offseason despite the current contract and remove his salary from the calculations of the salary cap, even though it will be paid out when the contract is dissolved, i.e. buy it out. That’s an option Miami used at Marsman. So he was released with a severance package and is now without a club.

Miami still has three goalies in their roster in Drake Callender, CJ dos Santos and Cole Jensen, so it’s unlikely they’ll be active again.

32-year-old Nick Marsman joined Inter Miami from Feyenoord Rotterdam two years ago and has made 30 first-team appearances since then. Previously, the Dutchman also played for FC Utrecht, Twente Enschede and the Go Ahead Eagles.

Lionel Messi Breaks Guinness World Records in Football

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com August 1, 2023
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

Lionel Messi is the active footballer with the most Guinness World Records. The company announced this on Tuesday. The Argentinian has 41 records – currently one more than his long-time rival Cristiano Ronaldo.

At the end of last season, Messi in the Paris Saint-Germain jersey surpassed Cristiano Ronaldo’s mark with his 496th goal in one of Europe’s top five leagues. In doing so, he also snagged the overall lead in the Guinness world record rating.

The Argentine achieved other records including being the youngest player to score 50 Champions League goals and being named Man of the Match in World Cup games, where he was honored 11 times.

Ronaldo can counter this, among other things, as the highest-earning professional footballer in the world.

Robert Lewandowski (9 records), Kylian Mbappé (5) and Neymar (4) landed in the other places by a wide margin.

Controversy Surrounding Lionel Messi Playing on Artificial Turf in MLS

Controversy Surrounding Lionel Messi Playing on Artificial Turf in MLS

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com July 28, 2023
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

Will Lionel Messi feature in MLS matches played on artificial turf? The US league commissioner expects clubs to lay temporary natural grass pitches.

Messi’s club Inter Miami have two games scheduled to be played in stadiums with artificial pitches in the next few weeks – at Atlanta United and FC Charlotte. There is now speculation in the USA as to whether Messi will appear in these games or whether he will refuse to play on this surface. Artificial turf is said to put particular strain on the players’ joints and entail an increased risk of injury.

Major League Soccer commissioner Don Garber told The Athletic: “Whether or not he will play on artificial turf depends on the player and coach Tata Martino. There are no commitments one way or the other.”

However, Garber said he “expects” that teams with artificial grass surfaces will attempt to install temporary natural grass surfaces on top of the artificial grass surface. According to The Athletic, however, the clubs are not planning to do this.

“It will be every club’s decision when they play in stadiums that don’t have natural grass,” said Garber. “In many international friendlies we managed to bring natural grass into the stadiums. But we’ve never done that for a normal game of the season.”

Lionel Messi: controversy over matches played on artificial grass in MLS

Messi himself has not yet commented on the subject. But there are reports, citing MLS insiders, that the Argentine doesn’t want to play on artificial turf.

There are a total of six clubs in MLS that have installed artificial turf in their stadiums. FC Charlotte have now announced that they are not planning any changes to the pitch for the game against Messi’s Miami on October 21.

“All of our Major League Soccer games are played on artificial turf,” a club spokesman told the Charlotte Observer. Last year, however, the club switched to artificial turf for a friendly against Chelsea and two games for the US national team at the Gold Cup.

Atlanta United, where Messi will play with Miami on September 16, also has no intention of switching to a natural grass pitch. That has never happened at the six-year-old Mercedes-Benz Stadium anyway.

FC Köln Reunion with Lukas Podolski: Bundesliga Club Wins Mini-Tournament in Austria

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com July 16, 2023
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

Bundesliga club 1. FC Köln won the reunion with club legend Lukas Podolski. As part of a mini-tournament in St. Johann, Austria, the team coached by Steffen Baumgart won 3-1 against the Polish first division club Gornik Zabrze.

The Cologne goals were scored by Sargis Adamyan (11′), Timo Hübers (45′) and Davie Selke (45’+1′) and the game lasted only 45 minutes. Rio world champion Podolski (38), who recently extended his contract with Poland by two years, was in the starting XI, as was ex-Cologne native Pawel Olkowski. Olkowski scored the interim equalizer (36th).

The test took place as part of the FC training camp in Maria Alm. It was only the fourth time that Podolski played against his former club: previously twice in the league with FC Bayern and once with Arsenal in a test in Müngersdorf.

However, the three-way tournament in the sweltering heat in the Koasa Stadium was not won by FC, but by second division team Hannover 96. Lower Saxony defeated both the Poldi club (3-0) and Cologne (1-0).

Bundesliga: Darmstadt loses test in Gießen

Darmstadt 98 has lost its third test in preparation for the new season. The lilies lost 2-0 (0-0) to the Hessen league team FC Gießen on Sunday, with Jorden Aigboje (60th) and Leonid Akulinin (70th) scoring the goals.

“We rightly lost today because we didn’t have our best day. But there are also games like that during preparation,” said coach Torsten Lieberknecht.

Darmstadt will move into a training camp in Herxheim from July 22nd to 30th. On August 14, the first round of the DFB Cup will go to FC 08 Homburg (6 p.m. / Sky), the following weekend Darmstadt will celebrate its return to the Bundesliga in the Hessen derby at Eintracht Frankfurt.

Bundesliga: Heidenheimer victory at the district league

Newcomers 1. FC Heidenheim are still in goal mood in the early stages of their pre-season preparation. Coach Frank Schmidt’s team won their second test match at neighboring district football club SV Mergelstetten 14-0 (7-0). Most recently, Heidenheim had defeated an Eisack-Rienz selection 12-0 during his training camp in South Tyrol.

All four of the previous new signings were used in Schmidt’s starting line-up against Mergelstetten. Marvin Pieringer, Eren Dinkci, Tim Kleindienst and Stefan Schimmer distinguished themselves as two goalscorers.

Ranking Real Madrid’s Most Expensive Transfers: How Did They Perform?

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com July 9, 2023
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

Real Madrid have signed Jude Bellingham, the second most expensive player in club history. But where will the Englishman place himself in terms of performance? SPOX provides an overview: The royal record transfers are checked.

Real Madrid have had one or two galactic transfers in the past. But who are the most expensive players in club history – and how did they fare?

© imago images

Nicolas Anelka

Came from Arsenal in 2000 for €35m

Anelka didn’t find his form for a season, but still got the Champions League and then brought the money back with his move to Paris. grade: 4

© getty

Arjen Robben

Came from Chelsea in 2007 for €35m

Thumbs up? Rather not. Dealt with injuries and never really felt comfortable in Madrid. Brought in 25 million euros in 2009 and then became a legend at Bayern. grade: 5

© getty

Karim Benzema

Came from Olympique Lyon for €35m in 2009

Long overshadowed by Cristiano Ronaldo, but still consistently delivered world-class performances. After the CR7 change, he became the most important offensive player and secured the royal triumph in the Champions League in 2022 with important goals. In 2023 he moved to Saudi Arabia on a free transfer. Note 1.

© getty

Luke Modric

Came from Tottenham in 2012 for €35m

It doesn’t need a lot of words. One of the best players in club history, one of the best of his generation. A bargain in retrospect. Note 1.

© getty

Thibaut Courtois

Came from Chelsea in 2018 for €35m

The first legitimate Casillas successor? At the beginning with small problems. Showed what he can do, especially in the last two years. Won the 2022 CL final almost single-handedly with important saves. Grade: 2.

© getty

David Beckham

Came from Manchester United in 2003 for €37.5m

71 goal participations in 159 missions, but above all a galactic next to the field. Brought a lot of glamor to the club and was worth every penny for that alone. Grade: 2.

© getty

matthew kovacic

Came from Inter Milan in 2015 for €38m

Should be the successor to Luka Modric, but never prevailed. After all, Real got a fee of 45 million euros from Chelsea for him in 2019. grade: 4

© getty

Ronaldo

Came from Inter Milan in 2002 for €45m

Ronaldo, the first. Was “only” involved in a goal every 99.6 minutes for Real and occasionally injured. But he was also much more than a pure striker. Il Fenomeno was an elemental force and an absolute legend in Madrid. Grade: 2.

© getty

Vinícius Junior

Came from Flamengo in 2018 for €45m

It took some time to get started, but it seems to have finally arrived. Has already played 225 competitive games for Real at the age of 22 and has 59 goals and 64 assists. It also seems to be getting better every year. Rating: 1.5.

© getty

Rodrygo

Came from FC Santos in 2019 for 45 million euros

More downs than ups so far, but has caught on recently. Especially in the Champions League with some important goals. In the shadow of Vinícius or other players but not so outstanding and rather average. Grade: 3.5.

© getty

Ferland Mendy

Came from Olympique Lyon for €48m in 2019

Has pushed Real legend Marcelo from his regular place, but is offensively much more harmless than his predecessor. Defensively a solid option for a high price. He also struggles with injuries from time to time. Grade: 3.5.

© getty

Éder Militao

Came from FC Porto in 2019 for 50 million euros

For a long time only a follower, has then blossomed into a regular player. Certainly not one of the really great defenders, but CL winners in 2022. There are worse investments, but still a tad too expensive. Note 3.

© getty

Luis Figo

Came from Barcelona in 2000 for 60 million euros

Sportingly a legend at both Barça and Real – you have to create it first. Emotionally only a welcome guest in Madrid. There, however, beyond any doubt. Grade: 2.

© getty

Luka Jovic

Came from Eintracht Frankfurt in 2019 for 63 million euros

Never prevailed in Madrid and disappointed even on his SGE return on loan. According to transfermarkt.de, it is only worth eight million euros and is now playing at AC Florence. grade: 6

© getty

Kaka

Came from AC Milan in 2009 for €67m

Still world footballer in 2007, shortly afterwards the crash in Madrid. Injuries threw him back, he never found his old strength. 2013 the free return to Milan. grade: 5

© getty

James Rodriguez

Came from AS Monaco in 2014 for €75m

Didn’t fail because of performance, but because of exaggerated expectations after a great World Cup in 2014. At least 79 goals in 125 appearances, but in the end just bench pressers. Note 3.

© imago images

Zinedine Zidane

Came from Juventus in 2001 for €77.5m

Perhaps the most galactic of the galactic. Unforgettable lightness. So galactic that many forget that he often let his legs dangle in the tough everyday life. Memories of Zidane often concern the important games in which he mostly delivered. In addition, he often fell short of his potential. Grade: 2.5.

© getty

Aurelien Tchouameni

Came from AS Monaco in 2022 for €80m

Already made 50 appearances in his debut year and showed that he can become one of the successors of Toni Kroos and Luka Modric in midfield. Real will probably bring a lot of joy. Grade: 2.

© getty

Cristiano Ronaldo

Came from Manchester United in 2009 for €94m

Ronaldo, the second. Multiple world footballer, collected records after records, became a club icon and got his fee back several times – not least when Juve changed at the right time. Note 1.

© getty

Gareth Bale

Came from Tottenham in 2013 for €101m

Involved in 173 goals in 258 games. Man for big moments and finals – Copa del Rey vs Barca, Champions League vs Atlético and Liverpool. Even the quarreling ending is only a minimal cloud. Bale’s time in Madrid is underestimated in many places. Grade: 2.5.

© getty

Jude Bellingham

Came from Borussia Dortmund in 2023 for 103 million euros

Will the Englishman prevail in Real Madrid’s already crowded midfield? The advance praise is huge, now Bellingham has to deliver. No rating yet.

© getty

Eden Hazard

Came from Chelsea in 2019 for 115 million euros

The Belgian is one of the biggest flops in football history. Still a top star in the Blues, he never got on form in Madrid. Even teammate Toni Kroos gave a swipe in June 2023: “We now also had someone who came for a lot of money and basically let his career rest,” he said in his podcast Simply mal Luppen in view of the high transfer fee Bellingham cost – and obviously meant Hazard. grade: 6
