Argentina and Brazil top South American World Cup qualification with second victories

Argentina and record champions Brazil achieved their second victory in the second game of the World Cup qualification.

The Albiceleste won 3-0 (2-0) in Bolivia even without Lionel Messi, while the Selecao won 1-0 (0-0) in Peru thanks to a last-minute goal from PSG defender Marquinhos. This means that the arch-rivals are the only two teams in the South American qualifying without losing a point.

In the absence of the ailing world footballer Messi, Enzo Fernandez (31st) from Chelsea FC, Lyon’s Nicolas Tagliafico (42nd) and Nicolas Gonzalez from AC Florence (83rd) ensured the victory. Bolivia’s Roberto Fernandez was shown a red card for serious foul play near La Paz (39′).

Messi had scored Argentina’s opening win against Ecuador with a direct free kick, after which the 36-year-old “felt something in his thigh”. Scaloni then took Messi out of the squad for the game: “Leo was tired recently and asked me to replace him.”

Brazil’s late winning goal came from a corner from record goalscorer Neymar, whose cross was headed in by Marquinhos (90th). Thanks to the better goal difference, the five-time world champions defended their lead in the table ahead of Argentina. In the first half, Brazil had two goals disallowed for offside.

Neymar Breaks Pele’s Record as Brazil’s All-Time Leading Goalscorer

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com September 9, 2023
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

Neymar has passed the great Pele as Brazil’s record goalscorer. He scored twice in the 5-1 win against Bolivia and now has 79 international goals to his name.

Neymar raised both arms in the air and his teammates applauded enthusiastically and respectfully after the historic goal: The 31-year-old Selecao superstar left no one behind in the 5-1 (1-0) win against Bolivia at the start of the World Cup qualification in Belem than Pele (77 goals) with his international goals number 78 and 79 behind him.

The three-time world champion Edson Arantes do Nascimento died on December 29, 2022 at the age of 82. For Neymar it was the first appearance for the record world champion after his spectacular transfer from Paris St. Germain to Al-Hilal in Saudi Arabia. His double (61./90.+3) made the fans cheer.

Neymar himself seemed visibly touched when he beat Pele’s record with his first goal against Bolivia. Lost in thought, he placed his forehead on the ball and stayed like that for a brief moment – as if his thoughts were with Pele.

“I never thought I would break this record,” Neymar commented afterwards: “But I want to make it clear: I’m not better than Pele.”

It was always his dream to “write my own story, to immortalize my name in the history of Brazilian football and the national team. That’s what I did today.” However, Neymar is far from the record of his female counterpart Marta, who scored 115 goals in 171 international matches.

Neymar misses a penalty kick

The game against Bolivia was special not only because it was Neymar’s first international match since the quarter-final exit against Croatia at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. At that time, he had drawn level with Pele in the goal ranking in the 3-5 defeat on penalties.

In the Mangueirao Stadium in Belem, Neymar missed a penalty (17th), and after Rodrygo took the lead (24th), he then set up Raphinha (47th) to make it 2-0.

After Rodrygo’s second goal (53rd), Neymar’s big moment finally arrived after a good hour of play. He struck again in stoppage time. The completely inferior Bolivia scored a consolation goal through Victor Abrego (78th).

Brazil: “Pele would definitely have applauded today too”

The Pele Foundation also promptly congratulated him on the record (“Pele would certainly have applauded today too”). Rodrygo said: “Neymar is the biggest hero for me. I will always remember this day, it is something special.”

Neymar’s nomination was criticized at home. Interim national coach Fernando Diniz, who will hold the position until Carlo Ancelotti takes over next year and made his debut against Bolivia, nevertheless expressed his confidence in his star. It paid off. “Neymar wants to score goals, break records and wants to support the national team as much as he can,” said Diniz: “He is a great hero.”

Uruguay beats Chile

Meanwhile, Uruguay’s new guard achieved a safe victory against Chile’s aging Golden Generation in a 3-1 (2-0) win against Chile without veteran stars Luis Suarez and Edinson Cavani, who were not taken into account by Argentina’s coaching icon Marcelo Bielsa. Nicolas de la Cruz (38th/71st) and Real Madrid’s midfield star Federico Valverde (45th + 2) presented before former Bundesliga professional Arturo Vidal (74th) made cosmetic results.

South America’s top trio, who were victorious at the start of the Eliminatorias, now have to travel to the next matchday on Tuesday. Argentina, which defeated Ecuador 1-0 on Thursday thanks to a stroke of genius by Lionel Messi, in Bolivia and Uruguay in Ecuador are in action in thin mountain air, while Brazil meets the tireless ex-Bundesliga professional Paolo Guerrero in Peru.

The summer transfer window is open, and more and more potential changes are emerging or taking place. Transfer news and rumors on Bundesliga, Premier League, Serie A, La Liga, Ligue 1 and the rest of international football from August 15th.

Robin Gosens

Union Berlin has managed a coup in its transfer offensive for the Champions League. The Irons announced on Tuesday evening the commitment of German national player Robin Gosens from Champions League finalists Inter Milan.

“With Robin we were able to sign a player who stands for commitment, mentality and team spirit,” said managing director Oliver Ruhnert: “We were looking for these qualities and believe that we have gained an important reinforcement for our game.”

Gosens (29) is playing in the Bundesliga for the first time and is looking forward to the new challenge: “I’ve always said that it’s my dream to play in Germany and the Bundesliga. Union’s last few years have been impressive, and that’s what you get noticed abroad.”

The Köpenicker initially gave no information about the term of the contract, the winger increases with a rumored transfer fee of 13 million euros to Union’s record entry. After fourth place in the table last season, the Berliners are represented in the premier class for the first time.

Real Madrid’s new keeper was officially unveiled today. He also revealed why he had decided against FC Bayern. “The decision was very easy. I had other offers from important clubs but when I was told I had this option it was really quick and easy,” said the Chelsea signing.

He will stand in for the injured Thibaut Courtois but hopes to stay beyond the year on loan: “Hopefully I can stay. We have time and we’ll see. But hopefully with my performance I can ensure that I can stay. “

Kevin Volland

That would be awesome! As Sky reported on Tuesday evening, striker Kevin Volland is about to move to Union Berlin. The Iron is said to have agreed with AS Monaco on a transfer of the 31-year-old, who still has a contract until 2024.

According to this, Volland costs four million euros transfer fee, another 1.5 million can be added as bonuses. Bargain? Volland would return to the Bundesliga after three years in France – and play in the Union Champions League.

Stefan Ortega joined Manchester City from Arminia Bielefeld.

Stefan Ortega

According to information from Sky, FC Bayern Munich has now committed to Stefan Ortega as a replacement for Yann Sommer. The goalkeeper is under contract with Manchester City and played there on and off as Ederson’s backup last season. All information is available here.

City coach Pep Guardiola has now commented on the rumours. “We don’t want to sell or lend him, but as in many such cases, it depends on three parties. We would have to sign a new keeper, it’s not easy. In fact, we want him to stay for many years.”

Romelu-Lukaku

Romelu Lukaku

Romelu Lukaku and Chelsea want to go their separate ways, but so far there has been no agreement with a club. Now there could be an obvious way out: Tottenham are looking for a striker after the loss of Harry Kane and according to the Gazetta dello Sport there has even been contact between the clubs. The price tag for the 30-year-old is said to be around 30 million euros.

Lukaku originally wanted to leave the Premier League, but so far nothing has reached him apart from offers from Saudi Arabia. The Belgian prefers a transfer in Europe. Accordingly, Tottenham could be his last chance. However, it is still unclear how serious the Spurs are with Lukaku.

Saudi Arabian

Harry Kane has just signed a long-term contract with FC Bayern after weeks of transfer poker, and he’s already arousing interest from the Saudi Pro League. Michael Emenalo, the league’s sporting director, cited the England international striker as well as PSG striker Kylian Mbappé as possible future figureheads he would like to see at one of his clubs.

In conversation with The National News Emenalo explained: “I would love to have Kylian Mbappé here. And I would also love to have Harry Kane here. This league wants all the top players. That’s the focus of our strategy. In a few years, in a short time, this will be one be a league where only the exceptional players play.” We have the “resources to ensure we build an infrastructure to keep players at their peak with us.”

Emenalo knows about big transfers and big stars. From 2011 to 2017, the ex-professional worked as technical director at Chelsea FC. This summer he was hired by the Saudi Pro League and is now centrally coordinating the clubs’ transfer policy.

Especially the four big clubs, which are now subordinate to the Saudi sovereign wealth fund PIFAl-Nassr, Al-Ittihad, Al-Hilal and Al-Ahli, have caused a stir in recent months with well-known transfers, high transfer fees and horrendous salaries for the new stars.

Nicolo Zaniolo

Galatasaray’s Nicolò Zaniolo is reportedly close to a move to Aston Villa in the English Premier League. This is reported by the Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano. Accordingly, Gala and Villa have agreed on a loan with an option to buy the Italian international. Should the transfer be fixed, Villa would have to transfer 27 million euros to Istanbul. Zaniolo himself has already agreed to the details of the contract.

Neymar

Neymar

The Brazilian will sign his contract with Al Hilal later this week. This is reported by several media. Also interesting: Allegedly, Neymar was offered to numerous top clubs in Europe – including FC Bayern Munich. According to a report by the Independent, Munich refused a transfer because of the financial dimensions. Likewise Manchester United, Real Madrid, Chelsea and Manchester City – only FC Barcelona was interested, but had no capacity for it. More about this here.

Tyler Adams

AFC Bournemouth are reportedly looking to sign Tyler Adams from Leeds United. According to Sky Sports, the exit clause of 23 million euros has already been activated. The deal is not fixed yet, formally some things still have to be clarified. The 24-year-old had recently completed the medical check at Chelsea only to find out that the Blues would not sign him. Brighton & Hove Albion are also said to be interested in Adams.

Nathan Tella

Bayer Leverkusen are looking for a replacement for Moussa Diaby. A report by the Daily Mail now suggests that Southampton FC could find what they are looking for. Nathan Tella is on the Werkself’s radar. The 24-year-old has struck 17 times in 39 league games for loan club Burnley and has five goals. Tella hasn’t played at the highest level yet, so it could be affordable. His contract expires in 2025.

Ismael Doukoure

VfL Wolfsburg apparently wants to sign another central defender. According to Fabrizio Romano, contact is said to have been made with Racing Strasbourg to buy 20-year-old Ismaël Doukouré. The player himself is open to the transfer, but Strasbourg has so far resisted. It is unclear whether another door could open.

Matej Kovar

Now it’s official: The 23-year-old joins Bayer Leverkusen. This was officially announced by the factory club on Tuesday. Manchester United reportedly collects five million euros, three more can be added depending on success. Recently there were rumors that the Red Devils would secure a buyback clause. However, nothing is known about this from the official side.

Juan Bernat: Should still be ahead on the left in front of Kurzawa. Since arriving from Munich in 2018, he has been a constant and shows his goal danger. Missed large parts of the past season and the European Championship due to a cruciate ligament tear.

Juan Bernat

Juan Bernat apparently wants to leave Paris Saint-Germain. As L’Équipe reports, the Spaniard could even return to the Bundesliga. Accordingly, there would be requests for a loan from Bayer Leverkusen and 1. FC Union Berlin. His contract with PSG runs until 2025.

Folarin Balogun

Folarin Balogun

AS Monaco are looking for a new striker after Breel Embolo’s cruciate ligament tear. As the Daily Mail reports, the Monegasques are already planning a new offer for Arsenal’s Folarin Balogun. The Gunners want the equivalent of around 63 million euros. With 21 goals in 37 league games, the 22-year-old recently impressed at loan club Stade Reims. Arsenal still have no use for him. Balogun’s contract expires in 2025.

These achievements piqued the interest of AC Milan. The Italians put €32m on the table for him in 2022.

Charles De Ketelaere

According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Charles De Ketelaere will join Atalanta with the medical check scheduled for Thursday. The midfielder comes on loan from AC Milan for a fee of three million euros. Atalanta should then have a purchase option of 22 million euros, to which four million euros can be added depending on the success. Milan also have a resale participation of ten percent.

Latest Updates: Neymar’s Potential Move to MLS and Desire to Return to Barcelona

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com August 10, 2023
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

According to current media reports, Neymar is aiming to leave PSG this summer. The Paris Saint-Germain forward could end up in the MLS like his former teammate Lionel Messi (Inter Miami).

Sea Fabricius Roman Neymar’s situation has drawn a number of MLS teams into action, with Los Angeles FC even preparing a move for the superstar.

Despite interest from US clubs, Neymar’s priority is Barcelona return, according to Romano. However, the Catalans themselves are not said to be interested in a mega coup.

PSG are also likely to be willing to sell the Brazil international but don’t want to give him away for free. The Parisians are probably demanding a transfer fee of 150 million euros for the 31-year-old.

Neymar comes from the youth team of FC Santos and made his breakthrough at the traditional Brazilian club. In 2013 he moved to FC Barcelona for a total of 88 million euros. There he celebrated great successes, including winning the Champions League in 2015.

Two years later he was hired by PSG for the world record fee of 222 million euros.

The attacking star was sidelined by an ankle injury for a long time last season, but Neymar still scored an impressive 18 goals and 17 assists in 29 competitive games.
