Cowboys Favored to Cover Against Cardinals on Monday Night Football
GLENDALE, AZ - Teh Dallas Cowboys are 3-point favorites heading into their Monday Night Football matchup against the Arizona Cardinals, a line that is moving towards 3.5 at some sportsbooks. Despite a porous defence, the Cowboys’ explosive offense makes them a strong bet to cover, according to sports betting analyst Malik Smith of the New York Post.
The Cardinals have lost every game this midseason by one possession, including two by a single point, despite serviceable performances from quarterback Jacoby Brissett. Meanwhile, the Cowboys boast the league’s second-best offense, averaging 30.8 points and 384.1 yards per game entering Week 9. Though, Dallas’ defense ranks 31st in points allowed (31.3 ppg) and last in scoring percentage per drive (49.4 percent).
Smith believes the Cardinals’ consistent fourth-quarter collapses will continue against the Cowboys’ high-powered offense. “I don’t expect the Cowboys to suddenly wake up and be a good defensive team. But I do expect their offense to continue the torrid stretch they’ve been on, which has negated the shortcomings of the defense. The Cardinals should be able to score on the Cowboys, but their defense has given up a fourth-quarter lead in four of the five losses. I think that will continue to be their downfall,” Smith wrote.
Historically, the Cowboys have performed well as home favorites. As the start of the 2021 season, Dallas is 18-11 against the spread in these situations, covering the spread by an average of 5.6 points, second only to the Detroit Lions (6.5 points) according to Team Rankings.
