The Journey of Pragnananda: From World Champion Dreams to Unyielding Dedication

“Who do you want to be? I ask seven- and eight-year-olds who come to practice. ‘World Champion’ is the answer for everyone. But when they reach the age of 12 or 13, if the same question is repeated, they will say: district champion. This is where my dear disciple Pragnananda differs. Pragga will always have an answer. I don’t need to tell you which one it is” – Pragnananda’s coach Grandmaster RB. Ramesh told ‘Manorama’.

Ramesh is currently participating in a coaching camp for children in Romania. “When asked what they want, kids say: friends, video games, social media, chess champion.” They all have many desires. But Pragga has only one goal.

‘Everyone is interested in the benefits of fame. But not many people can afford the hard work and sacrifices’ Ramesh recalled the childhood of Pragga and his sister Vaishali: Pragga’s father has physical disabilities. The trip is on a three-wheeled scooter. It is a three and a half hour drive from their house to my house. Both come to practice by bus, sometimes by shared auto. There will be wraps as well. During the break, go to the nearby park and eat it. It will be too late to go back. Even during the auto journey, they watch a half to three quarter hour long chess video. This will be repeated the next day; without any fatigue. Ramesh says that the result of that hard work is being seen today.

Pragnananda’s life was devoted to chess. Enthusiasm to learn anything and dedication to it” – International master and coach V. Saravanan told ‘Manorama’. I remember two games where Pragga beat Magnus Carlsen in online blitz. If the same position is repeated three times, the game will be tied, so it would be prudent to move differently first and avoid a tie. This risk is taken when even a draw with Magnus would garner world attention. This ‘guts’ is a common trait of the new generation. Not only Pragga, but the general quality of the youth team including Gukesh, Arjun Erigazi and Nihal” – says Saravanan.

A few years ago. The early days of Magnus Carlsen, a boy wonder. World chess legend Garry Kasparov, who got to know the boy’s spark from a short training camp, predicted: ‘With an intuition that no computer can teach and an innate insight into where to place the pieces’, my beloved pupil would transform the ancient game by the time its glory days were over. The legendary man’s words became gold as he became the world chess champion for twenty years. Magnus became another legend. That prediction is 20 years out of date. Many brilliant talents are emerging from India including Pragnananda. Who among them will be the one who dominates the world chess board?

BANGKOK ∙ The World Athletics Championship is a month away and the Asian Games starting on September 13..The Indian athletics team is on the track of the Asian fight from today with an eye on the 2 major events to be held. India is aiming for its best ever medal tally when the 24th Asian Athletics Championships hits the track in Bangkok, the capital of Thailand today. In the last championship held in Doha in 2019, India stood fifth with 16 medals including 2 gold. The championship that was supposed to be held in China last year was shifted to Thailand after a break due to Covid. The championship is up to 16.

The main attraction of the meet is that the winners of the Asian Championships will get direct entry to the World Athletics Championships. This competition is a test of strength for the athletes who are preparing for the medal fight at the Asian Games in China in September. There are 49 players in the Indian team. 7 of them are Malayalis. China has topped the medal table 17 times out of the 23 championships held so far.

Loss 5 gold

According to the team officials, India lost a solid 5 gold medals before the competition due to the withdrawal of leading players. Only Olympic champions Neeraj Chopra and Avinash Sable were exempted from the Asian Championships by the Athletics Federation. But the unexpected withdrawal of national record holders Praveen Chitravel (triple jump) and Jeswin Aldrin (long jump) was a setback for India. Both are ranked first in the current Asian rankings. In Neeraj Chopra’s absence, Rohit Yadav, who was the gold hope in men’s javelin throw, is also out for the Asian Championship due to injury.

Sreesankar and Tejinder as Prakesh

Shot put player Tejinderpal Singh Tour, Malayalee long jumper M. Sreesankar and hurdles player Jyoti Yaraji are hopeful for India. Tejinder broke the Asian record by throwing 21.77 meters in the national senior meet held last month. In the men’s long jump, world champion Jiannan Wang of China is also in the fray as a challenge to Sreesankar, who is ranked second in the world for the season. In the women’s 100m hurdles, Jyoti Yaraji has been in brilliant form this season.

Lucky symbol Hanuman

Bangkok ∙ Hanuman is the lucky symbol of the Asian Athletics Championship starting today. Hanuman utilized extraordinary speed, courage and intelligence to serve Lord Rama. The Asian Athletics Association said on its website that Hanuman was chosen as the mascot because of these qualities.

First Female President of French Olympic Committee Resigns, Causing Setback for Paris Olympics Preparations

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com May 26, 2023
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

Paris ∙ France Olympic Committee president and former international soccer star Brigitte Henriques has resigned. The unexpected resignation of Brigitte, the first woman to become the president of the French Olympic Committee, has been a major setback for next year’s Paris Olympics preparations. The incident is a continuation of the infighting that has gripped France’s sports governing body.

Fifty-two-year-old Brigitte announced her resignation immediately after the General Assembly meeting began on Thursday. Olympic Committee Secretary General Astrid Guiarte has now been given the additional role of President.

This incident is the latest in a series of sackings, dismissals and resignations at the leadership level of various sports organizations since France won the World Cup in 2018.

Brigitte, who took over as President of the Olympic Committee in June 2021, was a key member of the organizing committee overseeing construction activities related to the Paris Olympics.

With just 430 days to go before the Games, a key member of the Games organizing committee walked out on his own in a setback.

However, since the preparations for the Paris Olympics are being conducted under the leadership of the Olympics Organizing Committee, the organizers are of the opinion that Brigitte’s resignation will not affect the fair.
