Next reason to celebrate for Werder star Niclas Füllkrug (29)!

In a vote, his goal in the second World Cup group game against Spain (1-1) was voted Goal of the Year 2022 by the National Fan Club. A great honor for the striker, whose future has been on Bremen’s mind for weeks. With his move to the consulting agency ROOF, he had fueled the speculation about a possible change.

Does he stay or does the striker make the departure?

Now the matter is moving: SPORT BILD reports that two Bundesliga clubs, Hoffenheim and Gladbach, are dealing with a transfer of a filling jug. Hoffenheim coach Andre Breitenreiter knows Füllkrug from a time together in Hanover. Gladbach is looking for a successor to the courted Marcus Thuram (25), but cannot afford a mega fee. In addition, Everton FC from the Premier League are said to have kept an eye on Bremen. However, Füllkrug is looking at a real top club. It hasn’t been found yet.

Werder continues to be relaxed. By the beginning of the week, no official offer for a filling pitcher had been received in Bremen. Professional boss Clemens Fritz to BILD: “The situation has not changed in the last few days. We continue to plan with abundance.”

But one thing is certain: with an offer of at least 20 million euros, those responsible for Werder would have to think twice. Füllkrug himself does not seem to be bothered by the exchange speculation. He hangs in and presents himself in the best shooting mood. With his goal in the last endurance test before the Bundesliga restart, he snapped Werder to a 1-0 win over Schalke.

Ex-manager Klaus Allofs is also following the development of the Werder striker. Today’s Düsseldorf boss is concerned: “If Niclas were no longer there – it would be a loss. Even if you then had the means to look for a successor. But that’s not quite so easy in today’s market conditions.”

In addition, a new striker would first have to get used to coach Ole Werner’s system. However, Allofs does not necessarily believe that it will come to that: “Werder can hope that he will stay. There is no reason for Werder to necessarily give him up, after all, the club wants to stay in the league. But when Niclas says I really want to do something new, you don’t have many options as a club…”

Doubles coach Thomas Schaaf, with whom Füllkrug made his league debut in 2012, knows about the qualities of the Werder star: “Niclas has always remained hungry and greedy for goals. That’s his big plus. He has a good mix between selfishness in front of goal and playing with his partner. I was very happy that he jumped onto the World Cup train and was able to show his qualities.”
