FC Bayern Munich’s Offensive Struggles: Decrease in Goals and xG Value

Worrying statistics at FC Bayern Munich

In fact, Munich currently lacks creativity and penetration in their offensive game. Individual flashes of inspiration are missing, as are choreographed attacks. Leverkusen’s 3-0 defeat was not an outlier in this regard, but rather just the peak of a frightening development.

After the 3-0 win against TSG Hoffenheim at the start of the second half of the season, FC Bayern traveled to Portugal for a short training camp. Tuchel praised the “extremely high level of training” of his team, but in the subsequent 0-1 defeat against Werder Bremen, he said he saw “inconsequential” football. Since then, the Munich team has been suffering from offensive misery for their nominally exquisite line-up and the highest demands.

If you compare the first 25 competitive games of this season up to the win against Hoffenheim with the following five from the defeat against Bremen, the problems become clear. FC Bayern only scored seven goals in these five games, two of which came from set pieces and hardly any of them were well played. At the same time, two of the five defeats of the season occurred during this period. FC Bayern failed to score a goal against both Bremen and Leverkusen.

Now to compare with the first 25 games of the season: At that time, FC Bayern scored an average of 2.76 goals per game, in the last five only 1.4. This is not only due to inaccurate degrees, but also due to a lack of opportunities. The xG value fell on average from 2.48 to 1.74 per game.

FC Bayern Munich vs. Gladbach: The Starting Lineups and Match Preview

FC Bayern Munich vs. Gladbach: The lineups

Before you begin: The lineups are here! This is how the game starts:

  • FC Bayern: Neuer – Mazraoui, Dier, de Ligt, Davies – Pavlovic, Goretzka, Musiala, T. Müller, L. Sané – Kane
  • Borussia Mönchengladbach: Nicolas – Scally, Friedrich, Elvedi – Weigl, Honorat, Reitz, Neuhaus, Netz, Ngoumou – Jordan

Before starting: The German record champions got back on the road to success after the 0-1 defeat against Werder Bremen and – albeit narrowly – won two games in a row. This means FCB has moved closer to league leaders Leverkusen, who only managed a draw against today’s opponents, Mönchengladbach, on the last matchday.

Before the start: As usual, the people of Munich welcome their guests to the Allianz Arena. Kick-off is at 3:30 p.m.

Sky, new prices for the Bundesliga and live sport: How much does a subscription to WOW cost?

Sky informed its customers about the price increase for WOW on January 4th. This applies from February 15, 2024.

“Starting on February 15, 2024, the live sports monthly subscription will increase from €29.99 to €35.99 per month. This increase will come into effect at the end of your agreed term,” is the exact wording in the message.

In the future, you will have to pay six euros more per month to be able to access WOW’s offer. The good news: All existing subscriptions are not affected by the price increase until the end of their term.

Until then, new customers can also take out a subscription for 24.99 euros per month.

Customers who have only taken out their WOW subscription in the last four weeks will only be affected by the price increase at a later date.

FC Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund are apparently in a transfer duel for Can Uzun from 1. FC Nürnberg.

According to information from the Spanish portal Relevo, there have already been meetings between representatives of both top clubs with the agent and the family of the 18-year-old striker, and Sevilla FC is also said to be interested. According to the report, the family is looking to move abroad.

Uzun has been an integral part of the Nuremberg professional team since the summer and has already scored nine goals and three assists in 17 competitive games. The offensive man, who has previously played for Turkey’s youth team but would also be eligible to play for Germany, is currently out due to a groin strain.

Uzun’s contract runs until 2027, and Nuremberg reportedly wants to make him the most expensive transfer in the club’s history with a transfer fee of ten million euros. Philipp Wollscheid (2012 to Bayer Leverkusen) and Eduard Löwen (2019 to Hertha BSC) currently hold this status, both of whom brought in seven million euros.

Xabi Alonso: The Strongest Coach of the First Half of the Bundesliga Season

The strongest coaches of the first half of the season: Xabi Alonso (Bayer 04 Leverkusen)

It’s almost too easy to name the 42-year-old Basque as one of the top coaches in the Bundesliga. But after his arrival in Leverkusen in autumn 2022, Alonso did a great job. First, he rebuilt the spirit of the undoubtedly talented team and scored necessary points with a switch-heavy style of play.

Alonso recently spoke about how he initially approached the task in Leverkusen very pragmatically and wanted to lead Bayer out of the bottom of the table. “We weren’t a possession team last year. We were a transition team, we were a counterattack team,” explained Alonso. “That was completely different than this year. To be able to do that, to convince the players of that, that probably made me a better coach. It was my idea to develop our game.”

He has managed to do exactly that since the summer break. With a few new additions, which Alonso and his coaching team were involved in selecting and who have all made a success, Leverkusen has developed into one of the most formidable possession teams in Europe. The Werkself stands out even more in the Bundesliga because almost the vast majority of Alonso’s coaching colleagues prefer switching football.
