Southmoreland quarterback anthony Smith has transferred to Seton LaSalle,a move his father,Ron,stated in June was not for athletic reasons but to place his son in a “safer” environment.
as a freshman at Southmoreland, Smith set a school record by passing for 2,110 yards in 11 games. He recorded 22 touchdowns against 14 interceptions, completing 53% of his passes (129 of 244). Coaches recognized his performance with an all-conference honorable mention in the Class 3A Interstate.
In separate eligibility hearings, Hopewell transfers Keith Young and George Tafkov, along with Central Catholic’s Sami Tapu, were granted regular-season eligibility. According to Seltzer, these players will be ineligible for the upcoming playoffs due to PIAA transfer rules, though they retain the right to appeal.
All three athletes are entering their junior year. Young and Tafkov previously played at Keystone Oaks, while Tapu transferred from Shaler.
At Keystone Oaks,Tafkov was listed as a 5-foot-9,180-pound running back and linebacker. Young, a 6-foot-2, 255-pounder, played as a two-way lineman. Tapu, a 6-foot-2, 227-pound player, was a tight end and linebacker at Shaler.
