Today, October 20, 2025, is the final deadline for South African non-provisionalโ taxpayers to file theirโฃ annual income tax returns โwith the South African Revenue Service (SARS).
SARS Commissioner Edward Kieswetter recently reminded taxpayers of the impending deadline, emphasizing theโ importanceโ of fulfilling their tax obligations.
Asโข of Wednesday, 7,900,531โข non-provisional taxpayers hadโฃ already submitted their returns, leaving 854,408 โoutstanding.
SARS has โขfocused on simplifying the filing process throughโ digital platforms, Autoโข Assessment, and readily available helplines.
“Through enhanced digital platforms, Auto Assessment, and accessible helplines, taxpayers have beenโข empoweredโค to meet their obligations with easeโฃ and efficiency,” Kieswetter said.
The revenue service โขwarnsโ that failureโข to file by the deadline constitutes a serious offense, possibly resulting in administrative penaltiesโ and interest charges.
“As part of our strategic focus to โขencourage voluntary compliance and enforce the law, โSARSโ will continue to identify โคand act against those who do not meetโ their tax obligations,” Kieswetter stated.
SARS emphasizes โthat tax complianceโ is crucial for โbuilding a โคcapable โstateโ and funding essential public โservices,โข positively impacting the lives of South Africans.
In the 2024 tax year, over 6.7 million non-provisional taxpayers filed income tax returns, including those utilizing the Auto Assessmentโ feature.
