Somers Theater Program Shines with “Almost, Maine” Production
Somers High School’s fall production isn’t a football game, but the theater โคprogram is generatingโข just as much โขexcitement. โWhat began as a brief promotional visit from News 12โฃ on Friday unexpectedlyโ blossomed into โa live, two-minute segment showcasing โthe cast โand crew’s dedication and community spirit.
The students โฃare presenting Johnโ cariani’s 2004 play, “Almost, Maine,” a series ofโ heartwarming โขand sometimes heartbreaking stories centeredโฃ around love and โฃloss in the uniquely named town โขof Almost. The production โฃopens Friday evening,โฃ following an afternoon of final preparations.
During the impromptu live appearance, cast members expressed their passion for the project. “I think our cast has a really unique outlook,” saidโฃ actress โคFiona โคSledzik. “We’re really passionateโ and we really care about the show – that’s hard to find in a โhigh school production. Please comeโค see โit and it’s going to be an amazing show.”
The energetic segment featured theโ cast and crew dancingโ and singing, not as a preview of the play (whichโ isโ not a musical), but โas a โwayโฃ to buildโ excitement for the weekend. Jenna Yager, the โshow’s โคaudio technician, highlighted the strong bondsโข within the theater program. “The camaraderieโฆhas madeโข them all better actors and productionโ technicians,” she explained.
Theโค team is also keeping things โฃlight with a โคplayful tradition:โ the “Paperโค Plate” award,a humorous gift to be presented to an underclassman โขatโค Saturday’s wrap partyโ held at a local diner. “It’s mainly just โto makeโ fun and poke fun at everything that was going on during โฃthe production,” Yager said with a laugh.
Tickets for “Almost, Maine” are available for $8โ and can be purchased โฃfor showings on Saturday at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Don’tโค miss the chance to support Somers High School’s talented theater students!
