Robotic Wildfire Prevention System Deployed in โคCalifornia
LOS ANGELES – A fleet of autonomous robots designed โขto clear brush and create firebreaks is now โoperating in California, offering a novel approachโ to wildfire mitigation โas the state braces for anotherโฃ possibly devastating fireโค season.โค Developedโค by BurnBot, the remotely โขoperated โฃmachines are being touted as aโข “Roomba for the forest,” capable of proactively reducing fuel loads and lessening the intensity of potential wildfires.
California consistently facesโ escalating wildfire threats due toโฃ climate change, drought, and overgrown โvegetation.Conventional methods of fuel reduction,such as manual clearing and controlled burns,are labor-intensive,costly,and sometimes risky. BurnBot’s technology aims to address these challenges by providing a scalable and precise solution for preventative landโฃ management,potentially safeguarding communitiesโค and ecosystems.
BurnBot’s system,the RX model,utilizes a combination of mowing and chipping to create strategically placed fire breaks,particularly along roadsides and around critical infrastructure. The company is currently operating five of these robots across the state, staffed by experiencedโ technicians and wildland firefighters.
