The 2025 major League Baseball Draft has seen a meaningful presence from the University of Tennessee, with multiple players and commitments finding their way onto MLB rosters.
As of the latest updates, 11 players with ties to the Tennessee Volunteers baseball program have been selected in the 2025 MLB Draft. This includes current players and future commitments.
Among the current Volunteers selected are Liam Doyle,who was drafted by the st. Louis Cardinals with the 5th overall pick in the first round. Steele Hall followed, going to the Cincinnati Reds at pick number 9.Billy Carlson was selected by the chicago White Sox at pick 10. Gavin Kilen was drafted by the San Francisco Giants at pick 13,and Andrew Fischer was chosen by the milwaukee brewers at pick 20. Kruz Schoolcraft was the final first-round selection with ties to Tennessee, picked by the San Diego Padres at 25.
Further down the draft, Marcus Phillips was selected by the Boston Red Sox in the Competitive Balance Round A (33rd overall). AJ Russell was drafted by the Texas Rangers in the second round (52nd overall), and Dean Curley was selected by the Cleveland Guardians in the second round (64th overall).Tanner Franklin was chosen by the St. Louis Cardinals in Competitive Balance Round B (72nd overall), and Nate Snead was selected by the Los Angeles Angels in the third round (105th overall).
Virginia transfer Henry Ford, who committed to Tennessee on June 22, was also recognized as a prospect, ranked as the No.73 prospect in the draft.
Several Tennessee signees and commitments were also recognized as top prospects by MLB. These include Billy Carlson (ranked No. 7),Steele hall (No. 12), Kruz Schoolcraft (No. 19), Cameron Appenzeiler (No. 58), Ethan Moore (No. 100), and trent Grindlinger (No. 110), all appearing within MLB’s top 250 prospects.
The draft saw three Volunteers projected as first-round picks, highlighting the program’s talent pipeline.
