National Potato Day
Every year on August 19th, we celebrate National Potato Day, a recognition of one โฃof theโ world’s most โbeloved, versatile, โyet oftenโฃ misunderstood tubers โ [[1]], โ [[2]],[[3]]. This humble โคtuber has powered civilizations, โfrom ancient Peruvian farmers to modernโฃ athletes,โ adn packs a surprising nutritional punch.Potatoes were first cultivated between 5000 โand 8000 BC โคin what is now southern Peru and northwest Bolivia. after the โคSpanish brought them to Europe in the 16th century, they becameโข a global staple. In France, Antoine-Augustin โParmentier famously promoted potatoes as a nutritious food in the late 1700s, using clever publicity tactics.โ In 2008, the United Nations declared it the International Year of the Potato toโ highlight the crop’s critical roleโฃ in global food security โคand nutrition.
Despiteโ being unfairly labeled as โขsimply “carbs,” potatoes โareโ low in calories, high in nutrients, and wonderfully filling. They can actually support healthy weight control when prepared correctly.
