Slovan Bratislava’s Star Striker Čavrič Transfers to Japanese Club Kashima Antlers – What’s Next for the Team?

The best scorer and also the most expensive player left Slovan Bratislava. Srdciar, without whom coach Vladimír Weiss sr. he could not introduce the team. What now?

Serbian footballer Aleksandar Čavrič left Slovan Bratislava and transferred to the Japanese club Kashima Antlers. The club reported about it on its website.

Coach Weiss knows how to flowerily criticize his players, but he also knows how to praise them. He had nothing to criticize Aleksandar Čavrič, especially in the last two years.

If he played in France, he would cost 50 million

“He is experiencing probably the most beautiful period, he has not scored so many goals in his life. These are decisive goals against difficult opponents. He is dominant, our best scorer. His speed is admirable. I have not coached such a fast player, and perhaps I have not even seen live the acceleration that Čavrič has.

A football player should look like him. Tall, fast, has a beautiful figure, developed muscles. It’s innate to him, and he also likes football and this club,” Weiss gushed in November.

It was after the match in which the 29-year-old Serbian striker had arranged a draw with French side Lille: “Their players cost 20, 30, 50 million. But if Čavrič played in the French league today, he would have the same price, because he matches them.” With an estimated value of two million euros, he was Slovan’s most expensive player.

Slovan would not be where it is without Čavrič

Čavrič was on the verge of leaving the club several times. Last summer to Rubin Kazan, the year before to Legia Warsaw. Once he bought a plane ticket, the second time he even handed over an apartment in Bratislava. He never pushed for a transfer, he wanted the offer to be advantageous for Slovan as well.

He came to Bratislava in the summer of 2016 for a year or two, and finally stayed for seven and a half. He fell in love with the city and wants to live here with his family even after his career. He is waiting for Slovak citizenship, he would like to represent. Coach Francesco Calzona is also counting on him. It is questionable how Čavrič’s departure to Japan will change his view.

Last season he scored 24 goals for Slovan in all competitions, now he had 14 after the fall. He significantly contributed to two advancements to the knockout stage of the Conference League. “Without Čavrič, we would not be where we are today. Neither in Europe nor in the league. At the moment, I can’t imagine the team without him. He puts his heart into the game and has great quality,” Weiss praised him.

Čavrič had a promise from the club that he could leave in case of a meaningful offer for all parties. At the same time, he received a draft of an improved contract to remain at Tehelno polí. The call for a new adventure grew stronger.

One of the key players of the Slovak champion SK Slovan Bratislava is leaving.

If Čavrič leaves, there will be a new player the next day

CEO of Slovan Ivan Kmotrík Jr. already on January 10, he claimed that the club is ready for the eventual departure of Čavrič and has negotiated an adequate replacement. Coach Weiss also relies on it: “We have three players selected for Čavrič’s position. If he leaves, the next day there will be a new player. So we have it ready.”

Neither of them specified who it was. Godfather Jr. he just ruled out that the representative striker of Banská Bystrica, Róbert Polievka, should have been the replacement for Čavrič.

Behind the scenes, there have been whispers in recent weeks about the arrival of the Luxembourg international Gerson Rodrigues from Dynamo Kyiv, who is currently visiting Sivasspor. However, the transfer allegedly failed due to the fact that Slovan played a friendly match with Dinamo Moscow. As is known, Ukraine has been facing a military invasion by Russia for almost two years.

BRATISLAVA – During the winter training, the players of Slovan Bratislava will compete against several well-known teams, including Slavia Prague or the Qatari team Al-Rayyan.

The Slav players will start their joint preparation for the spring part with fitness tests on January 10, and on Saturday, January 20, they will head to Qatar for a ten-day training camp, during which they will play three warm-up matches. The official website of the “Whites” informed about it.

According to assistant coach Boris Kitka, the first part of the training will be focused on the development of endurance and strength parameters.

“The players will undergo strength and endurance testing. We will take the results into account when planning the individual load and as information about where the players are,” said Kitka. The matches in Qatar will start with the first match on January 26, when their opponent will be the fourth team of the Qatari Stars League, whose squad includes Rodrigo and Thiago Mendes.

The second opponent of Slovan will be Al-Wakrah SC, the third opponent has been decided. The starting point for the spring season of the Nike League in Žilina will be a match in Prague with home Slavia.

“We will meet a very high-quality and strong opponent. It will be five days before the spring premiere in Žilina. We want to combine the cycles we have in preparation so that we are well prepared for the first spring match. In case of changes in the squad, it will be important that the new players established themselves, played with the team and were as well prepared as possible when they arrived. If the team is well physically prepared, you can more quickly focus on more specific things, such as the style of play or things resulting from the game system and individual positions.” noted Kitka.

Schedule of preparatory matches of SK Slovan Bratislava before the spring part of the Nike League:

Friday, January 26: Al-Rayyan SC – ŠK Slovan /training in Qatar/

Monday, January 29: Al-Wakrah SC – ŠK Slovan / training session in Qatar + another match in Qatar is in the pipeline

Sunday, February 4: Slavia Prague – ŠK Slovan

SK Slovan Bratislava’s Tough Loss Against Olimpija Ljubljana: Playoff for Round of 16 Participation Awaits

The football players of Slovan Bratislava lost in Thursday’s home match of the 6th round of the European Conference League against Olimpija Ljubljana 1:2. In the A-group table, they took the final second place and the playoff for participation in the round of 16 awaits them. They will meet their opponents on Monday at 2:00 p.m., when the draw is scheduled in Nyon, Switzerland.

Vladimír Weiss, coach of Slovan: “I’m sad that we didn’t get at least a point. I’m angry with myself because I didn’t make the decision I wanted in that minute. I wouldn’t rate Borjan’s intervention now. We achieved the goal, but today I didn’t have a lucky hand. I wanted take more risks.”

SK Slovan Bratislava was assured of advancing to the spring part of the Conference League even before Thursday’s last match in the group with Olimpija Ljubljana (1:2). And since Lille confirmed the role of favorite and defeated Klaksvík (3:0), the “Whites” would have to face the spring preliminary round even if they beat the Slovenian opponent.

Martin Trnovský, goalkeeper of Slovan: “Unfortunately, it happens in football (about the expulsion of Borjan – editor’s note). I didn’t think and started preparing for the goal. I didn’t focus on whether I wasn’t warmed up. I went there and wanted to help the team. The result of us sorry, but progress is ours and that’s nice. It’s a shame, we wanted to win and enjoy it with our fantastic fans. Unfortunately, we couldn’t do it.”

Lukáš Pauschek, defender of Slovan: “We got the first goal after a tactical error, we fell asleep there. Then we equalized, but Milan was sent off, even though it wasn’t entirely his fault. We conceded right after the red card, but we tried until the end to equalize. We pushed advanced, but the forces were leaving. We definitely wanted to win the last game, that’s why we have such bitter feelings. But we are looking forward to the spring games in Europe.”

Slovan Bratislava: Future Uncertain as Change Looms – European Conference League News

by Chief editor of world-today-news.com December 14, 2023
written by Chief editor of world-today-news.com

Slovan Bratislava is experiencing a successful period. However, an inevitable change awaits him.

The second oldest team in the Conference League

The average age of the team is 27.6 years. It is the highest in the domestic competition and the second highest in the Conference League. The oldest players are also the leaders – Džaba Kankava (37 years old), Juraj Kucka, Guram Kašia, Milan Borjan (36 each), Vladimír Weiss Jr. (34).

SK Slovan Bratislava trainer Vladimír Weiss senior. expects that Thursday’s final duel of Group A of the European Conference League (EKL) against NK Olimpija Ljubljana (9 p.m.) will bring attractive and offensive football.

Among the under-27s, only Lucas Lovat (26), César Blackman (25) and David Strelec (22) are trusted in tough European matches. In the domestic competition, Filip Lichý (22) and Nino Marcelli (18) start more regularly. Slovan lacks prospects in several positions that would gradually replace the outgoing leaders and at the same time be monetized in the future.

Many with an uncertain future

According to Transfermarkt, as many as 15 players from the 25-man squad will have their contracts or loans expire by the next summer. Malik Abubakari and Sharani Zuberu are visiting only until December 31. Slovan has an option on both. However, they appear minimally, do not reach numbers and their persistence is rather improbable.

Marko Tolič and David Strelec are on loan until the end of the season with the option of a permanent transfer. Their stay will also depend on the amount of the agreed options, the club did not disclose their values. The shooter is getting in shape after returning to Slovan and expressed his ambition to stay at Tehelno poli. “I want to play so that Slovan redeems me,” he said after his debut.

Milan Borjan is on loan at Slovan without an option. With Crvena Zvezda Belgrade, he has a contract valid until the summer of 2026, he expressed interest in returning.

The contracts of the following players will expire at the end of the current year – Kucka, Kankava, Kašia, Weiss Jr., Barsejjan, Lovat, Zmrhal, Pauschek, Križan, Agbo.

Trainer Vladimír Weiss sr. often singles out the first three named as exemplary professionals. Thanks to this, despite their advanced age, they can help the team in the next season as well. Weiss Jr. although he is younger, he is increasingly limited by injuries. Agba and Križana are used minimally by the coach and it would be surprising if they received new contracts.

To replenish and rejuvenate, Weiss wishes

“We know which players we want to continue with in the future,” General Director Ivan Kmotrík Jr. did not specify the names: “We also have alternatives ready in case of any additions to the squad. Most of the contracts end in the summer, so now in the winter we don’t perceive it so dramatically.

It will be important for us to keep the squad together. And maybe they supplemented it with 1-2 players. But I certainly do not expect drastic changes during the winter transfer period. After that, there will be enough time to prepare for what we will demand from the team in the next season.”

VIDEO: Godfather: There is interest in Slovan players abroad. What’s coming up in winter?

“I believe that the key players will stay,” added coach Weiss: “The contracts of many of them will expire in the summer, so we will agree with them on their further activity in Slovan. And I also believe that we will supplement and rejuvenate the team appropriately. We have an experienced team and no one will play until they are 100 years old. But we have to do it continuously and sensibly.”

Will they fulfill their promise to Čavrič about the transfer?

The future of the main star Aleksandar Čavrič is also uncertain. Slovan announced an offer of an improved contract for the offensive ace, but the Serb has not yet signed it. In the summer, he had one foot in Rubina Kazan. As he continues to perform well, it can be expected that he will have even more interesting offers in the winter.

“What we promised him, that we would allow him another engagement in the winter, that will probably happen. As long as there is continued interest in him,” Weiss declared at the end of September.

A month later, he said: “There is a lot of interest in Čavrič, but he has a new contract for two and a half years on the table. I believe he will sign it and stay in our colors.” His current contract expires in the summer of 2025. A possible transfer must make sense for all parties.

A great result that should not be underestimated. Slovan Bratislava drew in the Conference League with the champion of France two years ago and currently the fifth Ligue 1 team.

There is interest in players abroad. Just so they don’t leave for free

Those interested from abroad are reportedly not only asking about Čavrič. “We are registering a certain interest in our players. We probably know who we are talking about. If we proceed with any sales, we will have to compensate for these losses,” confirmed Kmotrík Jr.

In addition to Čavrič, the Brazilian with the magical left-hander Lucas Lovat or the in-form Tigran Barsejgan could also be monetized for Slovan. The problem is that both are out of contract after the season and can negotiate with any club on a free transfer from January 1st (effective July 1st).

If Slovan does not agree on a new contract with them, he can try to sell them during the winter, but only for a fraction of their real value. In recent months, Myenty Abena, Vernon De Marco, Jurij Medvedev and Andre Green left the club.

Last year, before the end of the group stage of the Conference League, he was teetering on the edge, playing for everything. There’s no drama this time.

Will Slovan fight for Polievka again?

So far, there is unprecedented silence about potential arrivals. “Things are done, but I’ll keep it to myself,” Kmotrík Jr. hid. It can be expected that Slovan will at least investigate the possibilities of the arrival of Róbert Polievka from Banská Bystrica, in whom he was eminently interested in the summer.

“We’ll see what the next months bring. I am currently concentrating on Dukla as much as possible and I want to help her at least until the winter. If there is an interesting offer on the table, the management of Dukla is willing to negotiate,” declared Polievka in August, when his transfer to Slovan failed and he extended his contract with Bystrica until the summer of 2025.

In recent days, Slovak footballer Róbert Polievka was often shaken in the media in connection with his transfer to Slovan Bratislava. The striker of Banská Bystrica and the national team showed great interest in joining the team of “whites”, but the clubs did not agree.

He does not give up the dream of the Champions League

Weiss st. already in the press after promotion to the spring part of the Conference League, he focused on the further improvement of the team: “Some crown will come to the club, which we can invest. I believe that Slovan will keep getting better. I believe that we will achieve the dream of the Champions League one day. For that, we all in the club have to put in two shovels and work even harder. To make good decisions so that we are always better.”

Before the last game of the successful cup season against Olimpija Ljubljana (on Thursday from 21.00 at Tehelno poli and RTVS), he added: “From countries or clubs like us, it (participation in the Champions League group) is possible once every three years. Step by step and I believe that it will come one day. Whether I live to see it or not, Slovan has the potential.”

Analysis: Slovan Bratislava’s Loss to Lille in European Conference League Match

LILLE – According to coach Vladimír Weiss, the arrival of substitute Edon Zhegrava and two penalized mistakes were the main reasons why Slovan Bratislava players are traveling from France empty-handed.

The players of the Slovak champion lost 1:2 in the European Conference League match at OSC Lille and lost the first place in the A-group table to Thursday’s opponent.

VIDEO: Slovan coach Vladimír Weiss senior. evaluates the match against Lille

Slovan did not follow up the victories with Klaksvík (2:1) and in Ljubljana (1:0). They dropped to second place by a point behind Lille, but faced the strongest team in the group on paper. The performance in the first half can be a consolation for the “Whites”, after which they led 1:0 thanks to a prompt finish in the form of the playing Aleksandar Čavrič.

Zhegrova changed the match

The home team was “kicked” shortly after their triple substitution by a gross mistake by Guram Kashiu, whose unsuccessful kick was caught by Yusuf Yazici and after a quick exchange of balls with Remy Cabello equalized. Before Cabella’s second goal in the 82nd minute, the technique and skill of the Kosovar midfielder Zhegrov, who was full of the field, stood out for a change.

“Zhegrova changed the game. He brought the quality that we were preparing for and that we knew. He has a fantastic left foot and penetrations, he was able to push himself. Combined with our two mistakes, it was two moments that changed the game. Of course, from the loss, we disappointed but not with the performance.

We came up with a reasonable tactic, which we managed to implement until the error with the equalizing goal. Congratulations to Lille on the win, but we might have deserved the point for our performance today. I praise the team for discipline, dedication and quality. We had two or three good chances, unfortunately we conceded two unnecessary goals.

If we hadn’t let the home team into the match by mistake, they would have gotten more nervous as the minutes went by. With the score 1:1, we had a chance with Blackman and at the end, during the game of vabank, some runs and corners, but the home team already controlled it. However, with such an attitude and performance, we can torment them at home.” coach Slovan evaluated the match against the fourth Ligue 1 team, which they will welcome next on November 9 at Tehelno polí.

In the end, Slovan could take a breath for the onslaught and try to equalize. However, the expulsion of Lucas Lovat in the 85th minute made him cut his budget. The Brazilian was sent to the showers by the referee for unsportsmanlike conduct.

“I don’t praise Lucas for that, he got a completely unnecessary card. He’s a good player as long as he focuses on football and is disciplined. But he has a problem with self-control, he’s emotional and he gets upset easily. He can’t do that in a game like this.” added Weiss, according to which the fight for promotion from the group will be open until the end, and the champion from the Faroe Islands, Klaksvík, must also be counted on. After a smooth 3-0 triumph over Olimpija Ljubljana, the latter came close to Slovan with a difference of two points.

A balanced party

Slovan captain Juraj Kucka was pleased to learn that the Slovak representative can play a balanced game against a leading team from the Top 5 European leagues. “I’m definitely proud of the fact that we played compactly, defended well and were able to play with them. We have to build on that.” said Kucka. At the same time, however, he was squinted at the missed opportunity for a point gain.

“It’s a pity, because we had a draw within reach. We were held up by Milan (Borjan – note), who grabbed two or three clean chances. It’s a shame, our mistake kicked them. some ‘holes’ and showed individual qualityu. I believe it will be different at home.”
