Sierre-Zinal Winnerโ Joyline Chepngeno Disqualified for Doping
Sierre-ZinalS 2025 race winner, Joyline Chepngeno, has been โdisqualified after testingโ positive for a prohibited substance, race organizers announced. The Kenyan athlete admitted toโ injectingโฃ the substance, according to โคa press โrelease.
The โAthletics Integrity Unit (AIU) has โขissued a two-year suspension for Chepngeno, stripping her of โคall results achieved as August 9, 2025 – includingโฃ herโข victory in Sierre-Zinal – alongโฃ with associated titles, medals,โฃ and prizeโ money. This marks the second doping case linked to coachโค Julien Lyonโ in โthreeโค editions ofโ the โขrace.
Organizers have also โsanctioned Lyon,suspending him from any involvement withโ Sierre-Zinal. Athletes associated โคwith lyon or his Milimani Runners team are now โprohibited from participating in the event. The race organizers are also considering seeking compensation for damage toโ the event’s reputation. This follows a similar caseโ inโค 2022, when Mark Kangogo, also coachedโ by Lyon, was โfound to haveโค doped after winning the race.โฃ
“This doping case comesโ for the 2nd time in 3 editions under the responsibility of coach Julien lyon and his Milimani โRunners team,” the press release stated.
