Justice System on High Alert: Examination Launched into Suspect’s Swift Release
Santiago, Chile – Authorities are scrutinizing the rapid release of Osmar Alexander Ferrer Ramรญrez, a Venezuelan national initially detained for the homicide of a merchant in the bustling Barrio Meiggs. The Western Metropolitan Prosecutor’s Office has seized documentation and electronic devices from the 8th Guarantee Court of Santiago as part of an intensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding Ferrer Ramรญrez’s swift departure from custody.
The incident, which unfolded on July 10th, just one day after Ferrer Ramรญrez was ordered into preventive detention, has sent shockwaves through Chile’s judicial and executive branches. Prosecutors are examining irregularities in the process that led to the revocation of the precautionary measure, reportedly dispatched by the court mere minutes after the initial detention hearing concluded.
The West Prosecutor, Marcos Pastรฉn, highlighted the alarming speed of the revocation order, stating it was issued “no more than 10 minutes” after the hearing. This rapid turnaround has triggered an emergency meeting of the Supreme Court with the Administrative Corporation of the Judiciary’s computer equipment division.
In response to the escalating concerns, Minister of Justice, Jaime Gajardo, announced plans to collaborate with the Supreme Court to “immediately start an adjustment of work protocols.” The aim is to implement enhanced verification measures across all institutions within the justice system, ensuring greater security and clarity in future proceedings. The investigation continues as officials work to understand how such a rapid release could occur in a case involving a homicide.
