Burberry FW26: Daniel Lee’s London-Inspired Collection

British designer Daniel Lee concluded London Fashion Week with a collection deeply rooted in the city’s aesthetic, staging a show that mirrored the perpetual state of construction and re-evaluation that defines contemporary London. The Burberry Fall/Winter 2026 runway presentation, held at Old Billingsgate Market, featured a meticulously crafted set including a replica of Tower Bridge and resin “puddles” designed to evoke the city’s wet streets, according to reports from WWD and Who What Wear.

Lee’s vision centered on capturing the practicalities of London life, specifically how the city’s climate and pace influence personal style. The collection, described as a “sweeping tribute to the city he calls home” by Hypebeast, explored the idea that functionality can grow a defining element of identity. The trench coat, a Burberry signature, served as the primary point of departure. Lee reimagined the garment, softening its structure with ruffles and rouches, altering its silhouette and how it drapes over the shoulders.

The show wasn’t simply about presenting clothes; it was a statement about London’s ongoing evolution. The set design, with its scaffolding wrapped in the iconic Burberry check, underscored the city’s constant state of flux. Lee’s intention was to reflect a London “under maintenance,” a city perpetually negotiating its identity, as reported by DesignScene.net.

Lee extended the trench coat’s functionality into evening wear, recognizing its prominence as a statement piece when going out. Some iterations of the coat transitioned into dress-like forms, while others maintained a looser, more fluid silhouette. These were paired with lighter layers – silk poplin and plissé – suggesting a subtle evening aesthetic integrated into everyday wear.

The Burberry check itself was reinterpreted, disrupted and recomposed, reflecting the dynamic nature of the city that inspired it. A moody palette of deep jewel tones, ranging from navy blue to burgundy, further emphasized the collection’s nocturnal mood. The layering of garments maintained a natural feel, with outerwear remaining a focal point and lighter materials adding softness, and movement.

The collection consistently revisited Burberry’s core codes, transforming them from within. The trench coat remained central, but its attitude shifted, and the check lost its rigidity, becoming more textural. Lee’s approach focused on observing and translating a genuine way of dressing, where identity is expressed through the daily use of clothing. The show concluded without a definitive statement, leaving the impression that London itself provides the underlying rhythm and cohesion.
