UAE Ramadan Travel 2026: Staycations, Culture & Short-Haul Trips Rise

by Lucas Fernandez – World Editor February 18, 2026
written by Lucas Fernandez – World Editor

Dubai, UAE – Travel patterns among UAE residents during Ramadan 2026 are demonstrating a significant shift towards domestic staycations and culturally focused experiences, according to data released by Wego, a leading travel app and online marketplace. The trend reflects a preference for shorter, experience-led trips aligned with the adjusted daily routines of the holy month.

Hotel searches for staycations from UAE residents have more than doubled compared to Ramadan 2025, indicating a growing desire to explore the country’s offerings during this period. Dubai and Abu Dhabi are the most sought-after destinations for these domestic stays, with approximately 31% of hotel searches concentrated on four-star properties. This surge in demand has led to a 17% increase in average hotel rates for Ramadan 2026, reflecting the popularity of short domestic breaks.

The data reveals a change in traveler priorities, with location now playing a more crucial role than amenities alone. Travelers are increasingly prioritizing hotels with convenient access to mosque districts, cultural venues, Ramadan tents, and evening promenades, allowing them to seamlessly integrate Iftar gatherings with late-night social and cultural activities. This emphasis on cultural proximity extends beyond accommodation choices.

Nearly 75% of the most searched hotels are located near cultural districts, heritage sites, and landmarks, highlighting the importance of immersive experiences during Ramadan. UAE residents are actively seeking destinations that offer heritage, tradition, and a sense of community, aligning their travel plans with the spiritual and cultural significance of the month.

While domestic travel remains dominant, Wego recorded a 94% increase in flight searches to regional destinations during Ramadan 2026, suggesting a selective interest in short-haul travel. Countries like Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, and Oman are experiencing a rise in interest, as residents seek to connect with family or explore heritage-based destinations. Average airfares for these regional trips have increased by 9% year-on-year, but demand remains strong.

The shift towards mobile planning is also a key trend, with 69% of all Ramadan 2026 bookings made via the Wego mobile application. This demonstrates a strong preference for the convenience and flexibility of mobile platforms, allowing travelers to easily compare prices, locations, and availability on-the-go. Travelers are increasingly using their smartphones to refine hotel searches based on proximity to culturally relevant locations.

The increasing focus on domestic tourism and short-haul trips is expected to have a positive impact on the UAE’s tourism and retail sectors, as residents explore local destinations and increase demand for related services. The surge in interest in cultural and heritage-based travel further reinforces the UAE’s position as a hub for cultural tourism in the region.
