SAN JOSE, CA – September โ7, 2025 – Ryane Clowe has resigned from his position as assistant general manager of the San Jose Sharks, the team announced today. Clowe cited personal reasons for his departure after just over a year withโฃ the association.

Clowe’s decision comes a little more than โa year after he left his role as a senior advisor to the New York Rangers’ general manager Chris Drury to join Grier‘s front office in Sanโ Jose. His โขdutiesโค with the Sharks included working with the scouting and development staffs, Grier,โค andโข fellow assistant general managers Tom Holy and Joe Will, overseeingโ allโ aspects of hockey operations.
“I was part of a โขgreat organization, a โคgreat team that (just finished) making a runโ in the โplayoffs,” Clowe said in July 2024, reflecting on his time with theโ Rangers. “Once โI spokeโค with Mike, and (we) went through it, it was an opportunity that I โคcouldn’t turn down.”
The Sharks have notโ announced plans to promptly fill the โvacancy. โคSan Jose’s training camp is scheduled to beginโ in less than two weeks, with the โคregular season opening at home on โOctober 9.

Clowe โoriginally played for the Sharks from โข2005 toโข 2013,โฃ appearing in 423 regular-season games and recording 271 points with 567 penalty minutes. He also contributed โค45 points in 68 playoff games, helping the team reach theโฃ Western Conference final in both 2010 and โ2011.Traded to the New York Rangersโ in April 2023, Clowe later signed a five-year, $24.25 million contract with the New Jersey Devils as an unrestricted freeโฃ agent that same โyear. His playing career was cut short by concussions during the 2014-15 season. โค
Following his playing career, Clowe transitioned into a front-office role with the Devils,โฃ initially under โLouโข lamoriello and later Ray Shero.โ He served as an assistant โฃcoach with the Devils fromโ 2016 to 2018 before becoming head coach of the ECHL’sโ Newfoundland growlers, a position he left midway through the 2018-2019 season โdue to concussion-related issues. โคHe joined the Rangers as a hockey operations advisor during the 2021-2022 season and was promoted to โคsenior advisor in August 2023.
