Sexyy Red: ‘Beat It’ Remix & Throuple Rumors Debunked

A re-imagining of Michael Jackson’s “Beat It” by rapper Sexyy Red is drawing sharp criticism online, igniting a debate about artistic license and respect for musical legacies. A video of the performance, initially shared by Lil Yachty, quickly spread across social media platforms, prompting a wave of reactions ranging from outrage to dismissal.

The controversy centers on Sexyy Red’s explicit lyrical adaptation of the 1982 hit. Even as the original song addressed street violence and the importance of avoiding conflict, the new version reportedly contains sexually suggestive content. Many social media users expressed dismay at what they perceived as a disrespectful treatment of Jackson’s operate. “MJ rolling in his grave,” one user posted, a sentiment echoed by others who questioned the appropriateness of the reinterpretation. Another user stated, “I know damn well the Jackson’s is not signing off on this trash.”

Sexyy Red has yet to publicly address the backlash. However, she has previously engaged directly with online criticism. In December, she refuted a rumor circulating online – originating from a parody account – that she had proposed a romantic arrangement involving fellow rapper GloRilla and NBA player Brandon Ingram. “I wasn’t even gone say nun but dis is wierd and fake asf,” Sexyy Red wrote in a social media post. GloRilla similarly denied the claim, stating, “Dats fake stop playing wit me.” This incident highlighted the speed at which misinformation can proliferate online and the willingness of both artists to publicly counter false narratives.

The incident with the “Beat It” remix is not the first time Sexyy Red has courted controversy through provocative online content. Last September, she posted an AI-generated image appearing to depict a pregnancy alongside rapper NBA YoungBoy, sparking discussion about the boundaries between entertainment, publicity, and the spread of false information. Reactions to that post were similarly divided, demonstrating a pattern of generating conversation – and often, contention – through her online presence.

The debate surrounding Sexyy Red’s rendition of “Beat It” also reflects broader generational tensions and differing perspectives on artistic appropriation. Some critics framed the remix as emblematic of a perceived decline in respect for established artists and musical traditions. As reported by HOT 97, the controversy has propelled Sexyy Red to trend on social media as users continue to debate the merits – or lack thereof – of her version of the Jackson classic .

As of Thursday, February 12, 2026, the Jackson estate has not issued a statement regarding the remix. It remains unclear whether any legal action will be taken, or if the controversy will further fuel Sexyy Red’s visibility and continue to spark debate within the music community.
