Mike Smith, star of the Canadian mockumentary Trailer Park Boys, has stepped away fromโ his โrole within the production company following a sexual assault charge. Smith, who plays the character Bubbles, was charged on October 2nd in connection with an alleged incident dating back to December 30, 2017, in โDartmouth, Nova Scotia.
The moveโ comes after the completion of Season 13, โขwhichโข wrapped filming in August following a nearlyโ eight-year gap since Season 12. Trailer Park โBoys Inc. confirmed Smith has stepped down as managing director,โ with Gary โHowsam assuming those responsibilities. This advancement impacts the future of a comedy seriesโฃ that has garnered a dedicated fanbase since its debut in 2001 and โits revival on Netflixโ in 2014.
“We are aware of the allegation concerning Mike smith dating โback to 2017 and take such matters seriously,” Trailer Park Boys Inc. stated toโ multiple outlets. “We recognise how difficult an allegation of this nature is for all involved.” The company added that, due to the ongoing legal process, they will not be commenting โขfurther on the โcase.
Smith, alongside Rob Wells as Ricky and John Paul Tremblay as Julian, has been a โcentral figure in Trailer Park Boys as its inception, created by Mike Clattenburg. โฃThe show initially ran for seven seasons before being revived by Netflix. CBC News first reported the charge against Smith.
