“Cabaret” to Conclude Broadway Run Early Following billy Porter‘s Sepsis Diagnosis
new York, NY – โ The โฃacclaimed revival of “Cabaret atโข the Kit Kat Club” will โconcludeโฃ its Broadwayโค run โprematurely onโข September 21st, afterโฃ star Billy Porter wasโข diagnosedโค with a “serious case ofโค sepsis.” Theโค production, which broughtโ a โฃfresh interpretation of the John Kander, โคFred Ebb, โand Joe Masteroff โคmusical โto the stage, had originally been scheduled to run through โคOctober 19th.
Producer Adamโ Speersโ released a โstatement expressing the team’s disappointment: “It is indeed with a heavy heart that weโฃ have โฃmade the painful decision to end โour Broadway run.on behalf of all the producers, we’re so honored to have โขbeen able to bring โขthisโค version ofโฆ ‘Cabaret’โข to New York and to โคhave opened โขthe doors to our own kit Kat Club for โคthe year โand a half we have been here.”
The revival premiered in April 2024, initially starring Eddie Redmayne and Gayle Rankin. โSubsequent pairings inโข the lead roles included Adam Lambert and Auli’i Cravalho, as well as Orville Peck and Eva Noblezada. Porter joined the production in July, taking on theโ role of โthe Emcee alongside Marisha Wallaceโ asโฃ Sally Bowles. Theyโ wereโข slated to lead the show through its finalโค 13 weeks.
Speers praised Porter’s performance, stating, “Billy was an extraordinary ‘Emcee,’ bringing his signature passion andโ remarkable โtalent. We wishโฃ Billy โฃa speedy recovery,and I look forward to working with him โคagain in the very nearโ future.”
The production will haveโฃ completed 18 preview performances and 592 regular performances by its final showing. Forโข the remaining two weeks, โMarty Lauterโฃ and David Merino, who have served as longtime alternates โfor the Emcee โrole, will share the part opposite Wallace. Specific performance schedules will be โคannounced shortly.
