Diddy‘s Attorneys Seek Minimal sentence,โ Prosecutors Push for Over โค20 โYears
NEW YORK, NY โฃ- Attorneys for Sean “Diddy” Combs are requesting a sentence of less than twoโฃ months in prison, arguing that over a year โalready served in jail should โขsuffice, aheadโ of his October 3 sentencing for sex trafficking-related charges. Prosecutors, however, are seeking a sentence exceeding 20 years,a request Combs’ legal team calls “aโ perversion of justice.”
The request centersโฃ on Combs’ conviction on two counts ofโค transporting former girlfriend Cassie Ventura and others across state lines to prostitution, following a high-profile trial thisโฃ spring โคwhere he was acquitted of more serious racketeeringโ (RICO) and sex trafficking charges that carried potential life sentences. His lawyers contend hisโ career and reputation have been destroyedโค and that โhe has “made the most ofโ that punishment”โฃ during โhis โ13 months in โฃjail, making immediate release appropriate.
“Mr. Combs’s career and reputation have been destroyed,” his attorneys wrote in a sentencing submission Tuesday. “He has served over aโฃ year in one โof the most notorious jails in Americaโ -โฃ yet has madeโ the most of thatโ punishment. โIt โis time for Mr. Combs to go home to his family, so he can continue his treatment andโ try to make the most of the next chapter of his โขunusual life.”
Prosecutors are reportedly seeking aโค sentence substantially longer than the 14 months that would effectively secure Combs’ release, a request his legal team decries as disproportionate to the crimes. They argue the caseโ revolved โaround consensual encounters between adults.
“This is wildly out โขof proportion to โthe conduct at issue-threesomes where fully competent adult men and women voluntarily crossed โขstate lines and had consensual โsex with eachโ other, and the defendant made no moneyโ from the โconduct,”โข Combs’ attorneys stated. “This draconian approach makes Alice in Wonderland’s Queen ofโฃ Hearts โคseem benevolent.”
Combs โขwas arrested in september 2024 and accused of running aโ criminal enterprise facilitating sexual encounters -โฃ described โas “freak-offs” – where he allegedly โforced women, including Ventura, to engage in sex with โmale escorts while โhe watched. The jury ultimately cleared โhimโ ofโ the central RICO and sexโฃ trafficking allegations.
Hisโ lawyers emphasize the jury’s verdict in their โsentencing submission, stating, “The government accused Sean Combs of heinous crimes. It branded him an evil trafficker and racketeer who coerced and defrauded his girlfriends into having sex against their will. But noneโค of that โคwas true. Put simply, the jury hasโข spoken.”
