The DBB offspring initially hold well against record world champion USA – despite the ultimately clear defeat, the bottom line is a great success.
The German young basketball players missed the sensation at the U19 World Championship, but historically ended a terrific tournament with the silver medal. Against the high favorite USA, the team of DBB coach Alan Ibrahimagic had to give up 76: 109 (47:56) in the final in Lausanne-but the first World Cup medal in this age group stands for the German Basketball Bund.
“It’s just outstanding. What a team! We are all huge proud of our team. Congratulations on the silver medal, the greatest World Cup success of a German team of young people of all time. You can’t rate that high enough,” said DBB President Ingo Weiss. Vice President Armin Andres added: “We saw the future of German basketball among men here. And before that, we really don’t have to be afraid.
German U19 players initially with a good hit rate
Until shortly before half-time, the German basketball players around their top scorer Hannes Steinbach (19 points), who goes from the Bundesliga club Wรผrzburg to the University of Washington, and Christian Anderson from the US College Texas Tech (18), thanks to the speed of thought and good hit rate.
