Mexico City. Neither hesitations nor zigzags. That was the message that President Andrés Manuel López Obrador gave tonight to the outgoing legislators who are part of the coalition that has accompanied the so-called fourth transformation.

A touch of nostalgia invaded the National Palace in what was the last meeting between deputies and senators from Morena, PT and PVEM with the president. The imminent retirement of the Tabasco native from public life could not be left aside in the exchange and, in several, it even caused “crocodile tears.”

On social networks, the Tabasco native briefly noted. “I met with legislators who are ending their term and who acted with loyalty to the people of Mexico: they always fought against corruption and in favor of justice.”

Upon leaving the meeting, the coordinator of the Morena senators, Ricardo Monreal, revealed that in a last message, the head of the Executive invited them to one last public and massive event, his sixth government report in the Zócalo on September 1; and he made a request of them:

“Continue with the transformation process, so that there are no hesitations or zigzags, so that we advance in the process of change and political transition that took place starting in 2018. The message is very clear: continue changing the country and continue deepening the transformation.”

The idea of ​​goodbye was not left aside. “How did he see the president,” the legislator was asked; to which he responded: “In good humor, but nostalgic.”

It was, he said, a “pleasant meeting, one of courtesy, camaraderie and gratitude. He acted very honestly, thanking us for having accompanied him these six years, it was a farewell, our last session.”

The campaigns were not discussed, the name of any candidate or the candidate for the Presidency of the Republic was not mentioned, what was known was that the legislators closed ranks around the presidential figure.

“Close ranks with the President of the Republic and be attentive to the fierce and cruel attack that is being subjected, in the face of this entire dirty campaign, a black campaign that conservative and foreign sectors are orchestrating against him.”

The PT deputy Gerardo Fernández Noroña defined the federal president in his very particular brash style: “He’s a badass, the president is a badass!”

He said that López Obrador was very clear in his message of gratitude and to continue working for the transformation.

—Did you see it as nostalgic?

—There’s no way I’m not, if I’m leaving the Chamber of Deputies—today was the last day of sessions—I was getting all crocodile. He told us: ‘I’m leaving’; and they said: ‘Noooooooo!’; and the fellow president responded: ‘Of course, I’m leaving!’ —Noroña confessed.

He revealed that the president made a confession. “I’m going to give you a note, which I’m sure was not given by Nacho Mier – who spoke at the same time as other reporters – gave the name of the next president of the Republic: she calls herself justice.”

Recently converted to the transformation by abandoning the PRI ship to join the Green Party, an ally of the movement led by López Obrador, Jorge Carlos Ramírez Marín, described the emotion of participating for the first time in a meeting as a presidential ally.

“He made a series of recommendations about what is coming for the country and how we must stay in line with the movement. For me the interesting thing is when he commented that the street became narrow: there is nowhere to go, or it is one project or the other, I think he is completely right about that.

Recently joining the movement led by López Obrador, Ramírez Marín described the atmosphere experienced in the National Palace: “Without a doubt (there was) an evident touch of nostalgia, both from the attendees and from the president, I think it was a meeting with a lot of courtesy and a lot recognition of both parties.”

The coordinator of the Morena bench in the Chamber of Deputies, Ignacio Mier, detailed the progress thanks to the Pension Fund and made it clear that it was an emotional meeting with the president.

“A ratification was given so that we continue to be close to the people. He congratulated us all,” she added.
