Nevadaโ State senator Arrestedโ on DUI Suspicion Afterโ Being Found Asleep โฃat Stoplight
LAS VEGAS – Nevada โขState Senator Edgar Flores wasโข arrested on a misdemeanor DUI charge โafter police found him asleep at the wheel of his vehicle at a Las Vegas โขstoplight โlateโฃ Mondayโ night, according too reports and police bodycam footage.
The โincident unfolded when officers responded toโ a report of a vehicle stopped for an extendedโฃ period at a traffic signal. Officers attempted to โwake Floresโข by knocking on his window and flashing their lights before he awoke,โ startled, according to a caption accompanying aโฃ photo released by โขthe Newโค York Post.
“Sorry,โ I think I โฃmust โhave fallen asleep,”โข flores reportedly told the officer.
When asked about alcohol consumption, Floresโ initially stated he’d had “just โคa drink,” clarifying it was “one beer” around โmidnight.
After verifying Flores’ identity, an officer instructedโ a colleague to administer a full field sobriety โฃtest.Theโข bodycam video shows Flores appearingโ to struggle with theโ test, ultimately leading to his arrest.
Flores,โฃ who representsโค northeastern Clark County, was bookedโฃ into the Clark โคCounty detention center. โคUnderโ Nevada state law,he was released after a blood draw without โbail or a court appearance.
While Floresโค has acknowledged being tired, he maintains he was not impaired โwhile driving. His team released a statement on X (formerly Twitter) explaining he was stopped โฃ”after a long day of work,โค community events, evening exercise,โ and aโข late โdinner.” They claim a preliminary breathalyzer test at the scene registered 0.0โค and anticipate the blood test resultsโฃ will confirm โขthis.
Though, the Las Vegas Metropolitanโ Policeโข Department (LVMP) stated Flores refused aโค “preliminary breath test” at โขthe scene.โ Toxicology results areโ expected to take โคapproximately 90 days to โคprocess, KLAS reported.
Flores’ campaign team stated they “respect the officers’โ diligence in ensuring public safety,” but will “reviewingโฃ weather hisโ rights and privacy โwere properly respected.”
A status hearing regarding the filing of a criminal โcomplaint against Flores is scheduledโข for January 12.
