Jess Hull Advances to โฃ800m Semifinals After World Championships Heat โขFall
Budapest, Hungary – Australianโ runner Jess Hull will compete in the semifinals of the women’s 800m atโ the World Athletics Championships โฃafter โฃsuccessfully appealing a decision following a fall duringโ her heat on Tuesday. Hull finished her heat in 2:13.42, the slowest of the 55 finishers across seven heats, but was granted progression by the referee. She will be joined in the semifinals by fellow Australians โขClaudia Hollingsworth and Abbey โCaldwell.
Hull was impeded during the โrace, suffering aโ small gash on her right leg from herโ spikes. Despite the incident, she continued to finish the race, while another competitor, Sekgodiso, was forced to withdraw due to a hamstring injury after dropping โoff theโข pace in the second โฃlap.
“It’s racing, but there’s nothing different I could’ve done,” โHull said after the race. “I was taken out from behind so I think personally I haven’t done anything wrong. It’s not the fault of the pack either, โฃthat is racing, but I didn’t get a chance to even run myself through.”
The women’s 800m semifinals are scheduled for tonight, with Hollingsworth running at 9:43pm AEST, Hull at 9:52pm, and Caldwell at 10:01pm.
