St.Petersburg cityโ leaders and engineers โunveiled findings from โteh firstโข phaseโ of the Resilient St. Pete Action Plan this week, detailing neighborhood-specific flood risks and potential solutions gathered directly from residents. The โinitiative aims to create tailored strategies to โคprotect the cityโค from increasing storm โคimpacts.
The comprehensive plan, spearheaded by โJacobs Engineering, moves beyond a โ”one-size-fits-all”โ approach to resilience,โค recognizing that each St. Petersburg neighborhood experiences flooding differently. A key component of โphase one was a detailed interactive map documenting resident observations โand recommendations for each area. This information will directly inform theโค city’s stormwater master plan, โฃthe St. Pete Agile Resilience Plan, and โan ongoing seawall study.”We know theโ same solution is not suited or appropriate for every neighborhood and every situation,” explained Jason Bird, Resilience leader at โJacobs Engineering. “Weโฃ wanted to make sure solutions are tailored to each neighborhood and address specific types of floodingโ they’re encountering.”
Mayor Ken Welch โขemphasized theโ importance of proactive โคpreparation, stating,โ “The storms taught us how to prepare and how to respond and โคhow to โprotectโข our community going forward.” Theโค city is using the data collected to guide โfuture initiatives and โฃbolster overall community protection.
