pope Francis dissolves Commission for Donations to theโ Holy See, Streamlines Fundraising Efforts
VATICAN CITYโ – Pope Francis has suppressedโค the Commission for donations to the Holy See, according to a chirograph issued today. The decision aims to remodel โขthe institutional โขstructure responsibleโ for managing donations and strengthen the link between the Holy See andโ its benefactors.
The chirograph, a โขhandwritten papal document, emphasizes that donations represent “an important aspect of aโ bond of unity and charity โฃbetween the particular Churches and the Apostolic See, in particular โคfrom the point of view of โขthe effective exercise of the Petrine ministry.”
The Council โfor the Economy, responsible for overseeingโ the โHoly See’s โadministrative and financial structures, initiated the review, examining theโฃ issue and consulting experts. Following a positiveโ evaluationโ of recent steps taken, the Council recommended restructuring โthe โexisting donation โmanagement system.
As a result, Pope Francis has repealed the Statute ofโฃ the Commission on donations for theโ Holy See, invalidating any previous acts or โregulations adopted by the body. All assetsโข currently belonging to the โCommission will beโฃ transferred to the Holy See.
Monsignor Giordano โฃPiccinotti, president of the โขAdministration of โฃthe Heritage of the Apostolic See โ(APSA), has been designated โฃtoโ oversee the liquidationโฃ of the Commission, โคwiht the authority to subdelegate โas needed.
The Secretariat for the Economy, alongside aโ dedicated working group, will resolve any pending issues resulting โfrom the commission’s termination and will keep the council for the Economy informed ofโข its progress.
Furthermore, a new working group will be established toโ develop proposals regarding theโค broader โquestion โof fundraisingโ for the Holyโฃ See and to define โan appropriate organizational structure. The Council for the Economy will submit proposed members for this group to the Pope through the Secretariat of State.
