Kevin Spacey to Face New UK Civil Proceedings in October 2026
LONDON – American actor Kevin Spacey will again face legal scrutiny in the United Kingdom, this time in civil court, with a trial scheduled for October 2026. The High Court in London announced Wednesday that Spacey is accused of sexual assault by three men in separate civil proceedings.
this advancement follows spacey’s 2023 acquittal in the UK on criminal charges brought by four men. Two of those original complainants are now pursuing civil action, joined by a third, actor Ruari Cannon, who has publicly waived his right to anonymity. The cases center on alleged incidents occurring between 2004 and 2015, during Spacey’s tenure as artistic director of the old Vic theatre in London.
The actor, an oscar winner for roles in “American Beauty” and “The Usual Suspects,” has consistently maintained his innocence. The new proceedings stem from allegations of sexual assault committed against young men Spacey encountered while working at the Old Vic, with two of the complainants being young actors at the time.
A preliminary hearing on Wednesday, presided over by Judge Christina Lambert, provisionally set the October 2026 trial date. Further hearings will determine whether the three complaints will be heard jointly or separately.
Ruari Cannon publicly accused Spacey of inappropriate touching in a 2013 incident, detailed in a Channel 4 documentary, “Spacey Unmasked,” broadcast in May 2024. Cannon is also pursuing a claim against the Old Vic theater itself.
Spacey’s career has been significantly impacted by multiple accusations dating back to 2017, coinciding with the rise of the #MeToo movement. in 2022, a New York court dismissed a $40 million civil suit against Spacey related to allegations of sexual touching.
