Erling Haaland scored his 91st goal for Manchester City in his 100th appearance for the club, opening the scoring in a 2-0 Premier League victory over Chelsea on Sunday, August 18, 2024, at Stamford Bridge.

The match marked the beginning of Manchester City’s campaign for a fifth consecutive Premier League title. Haaland’s goal, along with a later strike, secured a comfortable win against Chelsea, managed by Enzo Maresca. The result places early pressure on Chelsea’s new manager as he seeks to establish his vision for the team.

Elsewhere in the Premier League on the same day, Brentford defeated Crystal Palace. Bryan Mbeumo scored for Brentford during the match, played at the Gtech Community Stadium.

Manchester City continued their winning form in December 2025, defeating Brentford 2-0 in the Carabao Cup Quarter-Final. Goals from Rayan Cherki and Savinho propelled Pep Guardiola’s side to the semi-finals, their first appearance in the last four of the competition since winning it in 2021. The match, played at the Etihad Stadium on December 17, 2025, saw an attendance of 38,254.

A controversial moment during the Carabao Cup match involved a challenge by Brentford’s Abdukodir Khusanov on Kevin Schade. Referee Samuel Barrott issued only a yellow card, a decision that drew criticism, as some believed it should have been a red card for denying a goal-scoring opportunity. VAR was not in operation for the match.

Manchester City will face Newcastle in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final. The date for that match has not yet been announced.
