Scottsdale, AZโข – A 38-year-old man โขwas found dead Wednesday โmorning โขin Scottsdale after a โฃvehicle became submergedโ in floodwaters during recentโฃ monsoonโฃ storms. โขThe body of Ander Pallares Polanco was recovered near Roosevelt Street and 77th Street after a search that began Tuesday evening.
The โคincident underscores the dangers posed by flash flooding โฃin the โคdesert Southwest, particularly โduring โtheโ monsoon season. Polanco’s family reported him missing around 6:15 p.m. on Tuesdayโฃ after they hadn’t heard from โฃhim. Authorities initiated aโ search, temporarily closing the roadwayโ in both โขdirections, but an initialโ aerialโค and drone sweep indicated the vehicle was โขunoccupied.
Fire crews and police decided to โคmonitor the vehicleโฃ overnight as water levels began to recede. โAround 6 a.m. on Wednesday, when the water dropped โto 4-5 feet, โofficials โre-entered the area and discovered Polanco’s body pinned beneathโข a walkway bridge, submergedโ in 5-6 feet of โฃwater โคoutside โthe vehicle. โA water โrescue boat was deployed to recover the body.
The โMedical โExaminer’s Officeโฃ will determine theโข cause of death.The Scottsdale Policeโ Department and Scottsdale Fire Department are continuing to โinvestigate.
