Ancient Stellar Explosion Sheds Light on the Early Universe

A recent supernova discovery on the outskirts of a dwarf galaxy is offering astronomers a remarkable glimpse into the conditions of the early universe. The supernova, designated 2023ufx, is believed to have originated from a star with an exceedingly low metal content – a composition remarkably similar to the cosmos in its infancy.

Identified on October 6, 2023, 2023ufx presents a unique case for scientists studying the evolution of stars and galaxies. “This is the second SN II with ≲0.1 Z and both show strange evolution, which suggests that they have different properties Metal-poor SNe II compared to metal-rich SNe II" observations provide a basis for modeling the metal-poor SNe II in the early universe," reads a recently published paper by Cornell University.

Unlike typical supernovae, which can shine for around 100 days, 2023ufx burned brightly for only 20 days. This brief burst of energy, along with the supernova’s unusual speed and the rapid ejection of its surrounding material, suggests a dramatic and swift demise.

The star itself appears to have been a red supergiant nearing the end of its life. Its extremely low metal composition, containing barely any elements heavier than hydrogen or helium, sets it apart from most observed supernovae. This scarcity of heavier elements mirrors the composition of the universe shortly after its birth, providing scientists with an invaluable opportunity to understand star formation and evolution in the early cosmos.

This finding could revolutionize our understanding of how the universe transitioned from a primordial soup of hydrogen and helium to the complex and diverse cosmos we see today.

LIMA – The existence of the Ad people of the Prophet Hud who was described as being tall, aka a giant, is still a mystery.

The discovery of rock art depicting Ice Age giants in a cave in the Colombian Amazon provides new evidence of human presence in the region much earlier than previously thought.

Archaeologists estimate the rock art to be 12,600 years old, indicating that humans have inhabited the Amazon rainforest much longer than previous estimates, which generally ranged from 11,000 to 8,000 years ago.

“’Our recent excavations help fill this gap, not only dating their arrival much earlier than previously thought, but also providing new insights into their lives and historical trajectories.” said study author Mark Robinson in a statement as reported by IFL Science, Tuesday (20/2/2024).

First discovered by Robinson and his team during field research conducted in 2017 and 2018, the two rock shelters were part of a series of settlements in the Serranía La Lindosa region, on the edge of the Amazon.

It was here that researchers discovered one of the world’s largest collections of prehistoric rock art, spanning a 13-kilometre (8-mile) stretch of rock face.

Painted in red ocher, this ancient work of art depicts some of the now-extinct megafauna that inhabited the region during the Ice Age, including mastodons and giant sloths. However, until now, little was known about what happened to the site during its thousands of years of use.

After studying the distribution of stone tools, charcoal and food remains in various layers of soil, the researchers were able to identify four waves of activity. The first occurred in the late Pleistocene and early Holocene, from about 12,600 to 10,000 years ago.

The discovery of giant Ice Age rock art in the Brazilian Amazon is important evidence that expands knowledge of human history in the region.

This discovery shows that humans have inhabited the Amazon rainforest for much longer than previously thought, and paves the way for further research on migration, human-animal interactions and culture in the past.

CAPE TOWN – Mat Sahara also known as the Richat Structure, is a stunning geological formation located in the Sahara Desert, Mauritania, Northwest Africa

As reported by Science Alert, NASA described the 50 km long formation, located in Mauritania, as a “conspicuous target in an otherwise featureless expanse of desert”.

The space agency stated that the structure has been a useful landmark for astronauts since the earliest space missions thanks to its striking visibility from the cosmos.

A number of theories have been put forward over the years to explain the anomalous appearance, including that it is actually the remains of the lost city of Atlantis.

Proponents of this strange hypothesis argue that its structure is very similar to Plato’s description of the legendary city.

However, we must emphasize that these claims are simply conspiracy fodder, and there is no evidence that Atlantis ever existed outside the confines of Greek philosophy.

A more plausible explanation is that the Eye of the Sahara is a huge impact crater, left by a meteorite or asteroid in the early years of our planet’s formation. However, this has also been denied by experts.

Instead, the broader consensus is that richat (or risart – which means “feather” in the local dialect) formed when volcanic domes hardened and then eroded over time, exposing layers of onion-like rock.

CAIRO – The mystery of the death of Pharaoh Tutankhamun (aka King Tut) until now has not been revealed, in fact it has long been believed that Tutankhamun died from open wounds because he was getting weak from malaria.

However, an Egyptologist has now proposed a controversial new theory, which suggests that the Boy King may have died in a drink-driving accident.

Sofia Aziz, an award-winning independent researcher, believes the ‘typical teenager’ is killed after a high-speed train crash while drunk on wine.

“It was this disaster that gave him a life-threatening fracture of his leg which later became infected and led to a slow death,” claims Ms Aziz.

“He was like any teenager, drunk and maybe driving the carriage too fast,” Ms Aziz told BBC Science Focus.

In 2010, a group of Egyptologists radiologically examined the pharaoh’s mummy to better understand the cause of death.

Raja, who was only 19 years old when he died, was found to have not only malaria but also various disorders at the time of his death.

Previous studies claimed he needed a cane to walk because he had painful Köhler’s disease in addition to oligodactyly in his right foot and clubfoot in his left.

LONDON – A group of scientists conducted research on the Earth’s core and found the level of difficulty much more difficult than researching the center of the sun. Even on Earth’s core much more dangerous because it can trigger an earthquake.

From the results of studies of earthquake waves and the temperature of the earth’s core, Australian scientists found that the rate of change in temperature at a depth of 3,000 km below the Earth’s surface is much more complex than previously thought.

In addition, in the inner mesosphere (Earth’s mantle) and in the border area of the Earth’s core, the rate of change is three times higher than previously predicted.

Dr. Hrvoje Tkalcic, a geophysicist from The Australian National University / Australian National University as reported by the technology site Spacedaily recently said,

“At the border of the mesosphere and the earth’s core, there are more changes than on the earth’s surface. The degree of difference between the liquid core and the solid mantle is much greater than that between the air and the ground surface. The center of the earth is like containing an asteroid. Therefore, the difficulty level of research on the center of the Earth is much more complicated than researching the center of the sun.” said Hrvoje Tkalcic

The researchers found that the temperature inside the Earth’s mantle reaches 3,000-3,500 degrees Celsius, with a pressure value of around 125GPa, or about 12,500 units of atmospheric pressure.

Temperature and other properties of matter such as the rate of change of chemical composition and density will affect the velocity or speed through the earth.

According to the researchers, it is most likely due to the influence of radioactivity and temperature on the border between the core and the Earth’s mantle.

JUNEAU – It’s not only the bottom of the US Pacific Ocean that is bubbling at the Earth’s fault and being associated with doomsday sign . Now the Alaskan lake bottom is also “spouting” bubbles.

Walter Anthony, a scientist working with NASA, says the lake is so filled with climate-damaging gases that you can see it bubbling to the surface.

The lake will appear more and more as Alaska’s ice sheet melts as temperatures rise and wildfires increase, according to a 2021 study.

NASA’s Arctic Boreal Vulnerability Experiment (ABoVE) is studying its effects on climate change, according to NASA.

Thermokarst lakes arise when permafrost, the ground that should remain frozen all year round, begins to thaw.

As this happened, the huge block of ice that was pinned down on the ground also melted, causing the ground to collapse by tens of centimeters.

“Years ago, the ground was about three meters higher and it was a fir forest,” said Katey Walter Anthony, an ecologist at the University of Alaska-Fairbanks, describing a thermokarst called the Big Trail lake in Alaska.

He has worked with NASA’s ABoVE project to study the effects of the Big Trail lakes on climate change. As water invades the leftover drain holes, so does bacteria.
