Newborns can suffer severe brain damage if their mothers contract COVID-19 during pregnancy, with elevated risks of preterm delivery and stillbirth. Two cases, in which infants developed microcephaly and neurological issues ― and which were found to have occurred due to inflammation to the placentas ― were documented in Pediatrics.
