A child is in critical condition after being pulled from a West Side Airbnb pool Tuesday afternoon, according to the San Antonio Police department. The near-drowning occurred at a short-term rental property in the 300 block of West magnolia Avenue.
Police responded to the location around 2:30 p.m. after receiving reports of a child unresponsive in the pool. First responders administered aid and transported the child to a local hospital. The child’s age and gender have not been released. The incident is under investigation, and SAPD is working to determine the circumstances surrounding the near-drowning.
This incident highlights the potential dangers associated with short-term rentals, especially those with pools, and underscores the importance of vigilant supervision around water. As Airbnb and similar platforms become increasingly popular in San Antonio, ensuring the safety of guests – especially children – remains a critical concern for both property owners and local authorities. The investigation will likely focus on whether safety regulations were followed at the Airbnb, including proper fencing and signage.
