Bahia Makes History with 10,000th Goal in Brazilian Football
Tricolor is the second northeastern club to reach the 5th digit. Photo: Tiago Caldas/Bahia.
In the interior of Rio Grande do Sul, midfielder Thaciano scored Bahia’s second goal against Caxias in the clash for the second phase of the Copa do Brasil – the final result is yet to be updated. With this, the club reached a historic milestone at the Centenário Stadium. That goal was the 10,000th goal in the history of Baêa, now 93 years old. It’s a very restricted brand.
With the precise finish from the 28-year-old from Paraíba, 40 minutes into the first half, Esquadrão de Aço became the 14th Brazilian club to reach this level, being only the second in the Northeast – Santa Cruz was the pioneer, on January 18 2020. Unsurprisingly, the ranking is led by Santos. Peixe, in fact, has already surpassed 13 thousand, 1,091 of which through King Pelé, the country’s top scorer. The São Paulo club scored its 10,000th goal in 1998! In recent times, however, Flamengo has been approaching. Today, the difference between the leader and the runner-up is just 24 goals – see the ranking below.
The list considers the goals scored in all matches of the main teams, both in official competitions and in friendlies. In the case of the Salvador team, this volume arrived after 5,635 matches with a known result. On average, 1.77. Regarding the “contribution”, it is worth noting that only twelve players scored more than 100 goals wearing the Bahia shirt. Carlito, who played between 1946 and 1959, is the record holder. The mark is very difficult to surpass in current football: 233 goals. Below is the list of tricolor scorers.
The greatest scorers in the history of Bahia (+100 goals)
1st) 233 goals: Carlito (1946-1959)
2nd) 184 goals: Douglas (1972-1980)
3rd) 158 goals: Hamilton (1956-1966)
4th) 150 goals: Uéslei (1991-2005)
5th) 133 goals: Osni (1978-1984)
6th) 131 goals: Vareta (1935-1940)
7th) 126 goals: Nonato (2000-2007)
8th) 121 goals: Alencar (1959-1968)
9th) 119 goals: Marcelo Ramos (1991-2008)
10th) 115 goals: Isaltino (1947-1959)
11th) 110 goals: Biriba (1957-1968)

Currently, Brazil has 850 professional clubs. Considering the compilation of surveys, based on the exceptional website Futebol 80 and with data from researchers Pedro Pereira (Bahia), Mauro Bastos (Ceará) and Carlos Celso Cordeiro (football from Pernambuco), it is possible to observe only 29 clubs with more than 7 thousand goals scored . The seven largest in the NE are present. The next one to reach the “10 thousand goal” should be Sport. 48 to go.
Below, check the ranking of goals scored in the country, with data updated until March 12, 2024. It is worth noting that the number of games played, in parentheses, refers to known results, as some matches from the past, especially between 1900 and 1920, the score was not reported in the newspapers, due to little sports coverage at the time.

São Paulo to Pay R$1 Million Fine to Announce Juventude Coach as New Commander
Tricolor São Paulo must pay the coach’s termination fine with Juventude, valued at R$1 million, to announce him as the new commander
São Paulo had a conversation with Thiago Carpini’s staff in the last few hours and reached an agreement with the Juventude coach, as the GOAL. The intention is to pay the termination fine of R$1 million and arrange the hiring of the coach for the course of the season.
Tricolor from São Paulo understands that the Brazilian is a promising name and that he can lead the squad in the 2024 competitions — the team will play Supercopa do Brasil, Paulistão, Copa do Brasil, Brasileirão and Libertadores.
The coach made a good impression on the board at the virtual meeting this Wednesday (10) and it was announced that he will be contacted to formalize an agreement in the next few hours. He gave a positive signal to the sports project presented by football director Carlos Belmonte Sobrinho and executive Rui Costa.

Rafa Benítez’s Decision to Keep James Rodríguez and Refuse Luis Díaz Exchange Revealed
08:24
Spanish coach refused to let go of the Colombian and receive Luis Díaz in exchange
In recent years, James Rodríguez’s name has been associated with a return to FC Porto in practically every transfer window. In the summer of 2021 it was no different and a possible deal with Everton, which also involved Luis Díaz, was stopped by… Rafa Benítez. The person who revealed everything was Marcel Brands, at the time the Tofees’ sporting director.
“In the summer of 2021 we tried to sign Luis Díaz from FC Porto. I was working hard to get James Rodríguez to return to FC Porto as part of the deal to take Díaz. Rafa Benítez was against it, because he wasn’t sure about Luis Díaz”, said the now president of PSV Eindhoven, in an interview with ‘AD Sportwereld’. Díaz later ended up going to Liverpool and James is now at São Paulo.

Possible Return of Gustavo Scarpa to Brazil: Will São Paulo FC Be His Destination?
The news comes from journalist Gabriel Sá, investigated by me and Arquibancada Tricolor. Gustavo Scarpa, a midfielder currently at Olympiacos but belonging to Nottingham Forest, could be returning to Brazil at the end of the year. And one of the destinations would be the Morumbi club.
There are already conversations between the club and the player’s staff. What I understand so far is that Scarpa really wants to return to Brazil, he is not opposed to playing for a rival of his last club and the financial equation with Nottingham would be “viable”, that is, there would be no absurd amounts involved in a possible transfer.
The hardest part in this case would be the competition. Scarpa has a market in all the big Brazilian clubs, including Palmeiras, his former club. Not just the alviverde. Atlético, Fluminense and Flamengo are teams that will strengthen themselves for the Libertadores 2024. Scarpa’s name resonates well with all of the clubs above.

And what would be the Tricolor strategy to try to hire? Seduce the player and his staff with planning for next year, obviously including a good salary and the endorsement of Dorival Júnior. For now everything is preliminary but, in my opinion, the ex-Palmeiras player would be a better reinforcement than Éverton Ribeiro, with an expiring contract at Flamengo.
Historical tip: before arriving at Palmeiras in 2018, São Paulo negotiated with the player.
In the field of speculation, Scarpa could fit in any position in midfield but the tendency would be to play on the right side. After a lackluster spell at Nottingham Forest, with just ten appearances and no goals scored, the currently 29-year-old midfielder is on loan for a season at Olympiacos, in Greece, but could shorten this spell with his return to Brazilian soil.
Would Gustavo Scarpa fit in this Tricolor squad for 2024?

James Rodríguez Joins Sao Paulo as a Dream Come True; Lucas Moura Set to Return
Sao Paulo officially presented James Rodríguez this Tuesday as a reinforcement for the three tournaments he faces, but now he has given another blow of opinion in the assembly of his roster.
James acknowledged this Tuesday, in his presentation as a new Sao Paulo player, that he always had the dream of playing in Brazil, the country from which he rose to stardom after his brilliant performance in the 2014 World Cup.
“Football takes many turns, but I wanted to play here. Brazil has a culture that I love, I have many Brazilian friends; it was a dream to be able to play here in Brazil,” James said at his first press conference as a Tricolor player.
The 32-year-old playmaker, who signed a contract with the São Paulo club until June 2025, will wear number 19, the same one he wore for Portuguese Porto and English Everton.
A successful squad player in Europe returns to Sao Paulo
Now, the tricolor from São Paulo has almost ready the return of a player from the house, who will return to the club after 12 years of a great career in Europe.
Press versions take as a fact the return of Lucas Moura, a 30-year-old attacker who has just been released from Tottenham, where he has been for the last five and a half years.
Lucas Moura was trained in Sao Paulo and in 2013, after winning the Copa Sudamericana with his club, he was transferred to Paris Saint-Germain, in exchange for 35 million euros.
After five years, the attacker went from PSG to Tottenham, where he had a peak moment, the treble against Ajax in the 2018/19 Champions League semifinal, in which they lost the final match against Liverpool.

Plagued by injuries, Lucas Moura made just 19 appearances in all competitions for Tottenham last season. He now hopes to help his home club to green up its laurels.
