LAS CRUCES, N.M. โค(KFOX14/CBS4) – New Mexico State University faces a quickโข turnaround, preparing to hostโ Sam houston โState thisโ week following a loss to teh University of New Mexico on Saturday. The Aggies (0-4) will โขattempt to secure their first win of theโค season in the โConference USA matchup.
Sam Houston State enters the game also seeking its first victory, โฃcurrently with a 0-4 record, butโค coming off a bye โขweek. NMSU is navigating multiple injuries, notably along the offensive line, which allowed nine โsacks against UNM.
“To โคme,it challenges your grit,” Head Coach Tony sanchez said. “Weโข talk โฃabout being toughโข andโ havingโ a gritty mentality. โNow we are going to see if weโ haveโข it.”
Sanchez emphasized โขthe need for individual success on the offensive line. “It’s one thing if theโ scheme is breaking down, but it is not โฃthat,” he stated. “You โhave got to win yourโฃ one-on-one.”
The Aggies’ defense will be challenged by Sam Houston’s air raid offense, lead by Head Coach Phil Longo,โ which focuses onโค creating mismatches and explosive plays. Sanchez highlighted tackling โฃin space as crucial to containing the Bearkats.
“They โฃrun more swing passes than โanyone,” sanchez said. “Then they will try and take the top off the defense. โThe biggest thing for us is tackling in space. They try to get the ball into open areas and see ifโข youโ can tackle them.”
NMSU is currently a 1.5-point underdog,โฃ accordingโ to โขoddsmakers.
