Table of Contents
Ottawa, ON – September 16, 2025 – The Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) is investigating an outbreak of Salmonella infections linked to multiple food products and dog treats. As of September 16, 2025, thirteen confirmed cases of Salmonella have been reported across five provinces: Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Ontario, and Saskatchewan. Individuals who have consumed the implicated products or their pets who have eaten the recalled dog treats are urged to monitor for symptoms and seek medical attention if necessary.
This outbreak presents a public health concern due to the potential for severe illness, particularly among young children, the elderly, and individuals with weakened immune systems. Salmonella infections can cause fever, abdominal cramps, diarrhea, and vomiting, typically beginning six to 72 hours after infection. While most people recover without treatment, some may require hospitalization. The ongoing examination aims to identify the source of the contamination, prevent further illnesses, and mitigate the risk to both humans and animals.

* Pet Owners: Consult with a veterinarian if your pet exhibits symptoms of Salmonella infection, such as diarrhea, vomiting, fever, or lethargy. Discontinue feeding recalled dog treats instantly. Practice good hygiene when handling pet food and treats.
* Reporting: Report any suspected Salmonella infections to your healthcare provider.
