West Bandung, Indonesia – Construction has begunโข on a 60 MWAC floating solar power โplantโข (PLTS) at the Saguling Reservoir in West Bandung โฃRegency, West Java, a project โspearheaded by PLN Indonesia Power (PLN IP) and Indo Acwa Saguling Staff. โคTheโ initiative, launched Saturday, โฃOctober 5, 2024, is expected toโ generate over 130 GWH ofโข electricity annually – enough to power approximately 50,000โค households – โฃand reduce โcarbon emissions by 104,000 tons of CO2 per year.
The โSaguling PLTS isโฃ designatedโ a National Strategicโข Projectโข (PSN) under Presidential regulation No. 109 of 2020 and supports Indonesia’s goal of โคachieving Net Zero Emission by 2060. โ
“This project is not only a symbol of our โcommitment โขto the transition ofโฃ clean energy, but also a tangible form of PLN โขIndonesia Power’s contribution in strengthening regional energy security โand providing direct benefits to the โคsurrounding community,” stated PLN IP President Director Bernadus Sudarmanta.
The project will adhere to international Environmental and Social Management โคSystem (ESMS) standards. Utilizing floatingโข PVโฃ technology is expected to reduce water evaporation โคand enhance solar panel efficiency throughโค lower operating temperatures.โฃ Less than 5% of the Saguling Reservoir’s total surface area will be used, ensuring no disruption to its primary functions as a hydroelectric power sourceโ and for irrigation.
Beyond its energy production, the Saguling PLTSโข is designed to bolster the reliability of โthe regional power grid, โฃserving as a reserve electricityโข resource during emergenciesโข and outages โin West Bandung and surrounding areas.
