Afghanistan Seeks โฃIndian Investment in Minerals, Pushes for Wagah Border Opening
New Delhi: โฃAfghanistan’s Foreign Minister amirโค Khan Muttaqi has formally invited India to investโ in the country’s mineral resources, alongside opportunitiesโฃ in agriculture and sports. He also requested the opening of the โWagah โborder, describing it โas the “fastest trade route” between India and โAfghanistan,โข during a pressโข conference in new Delhiโข on Sunday.
Muttaqi stated he metโ with โIndia’s External Affairs Ministerโ S. Jaishankar โto discuss โขeconomy, trade, and other issues. During the meeting, Jaishankar announced the upgrading of India’s mission in Kabul to Embassyโ level, with diplomats from Kabul expected to arrive in New Delhi.
“We also invited the Indian side to invest, particularly in minerals, agriculture, and sports,” Muttaqi said. โHe further highlighted discussions regarding the Chabahar port.
The Afghan Foreign Minister also addressed concerns regarding the absence of women โjournalists atโค his initial press conference, attributing it to a “technical issue”โ and a short notice invitation list, clarifying it was not a matterโ of genderโฃ discrimination. He afterward held โa second press interaction inviting womenโฃ journalists to โattend.
