Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —

Penasihat Presiden Ukraina, Mykhailo Podolyak, mengecam Elon Musk for indirectly allowing Russian forces to attack Ukrainian cities after it was revealed that its Starlink satellite communications were interfering with drone operations.

Details of the incident are outlined in Walter Isaacson’s biography of Musk, which will be released on Tuesday (12/9). The book describes how the network shut down communications near the coast of the Russian-occupied Crimean Peninsula when Ukrainian drones approached Russian warships, resulting in a “loss of connectivity.”

According to the biographical book, Elon Musk allegedly ordered Starlink engineers to turn off communications, because he was worried that Russian President Vladimir Putin would retaliate against Ukraine’s attack on Crimea with nuclear weapons.

“I think if a Ukrainian attack succeeded in sinking the Russian fleet, it would be like a mini Pearl Harbor and cause a massive escalation,” Musk said. “We don’t want to be part of that,” he continued, as reported Al JazeeraSaturday (9/9).

Via the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), which belongs to Elon Musk, Podolyak launched a scathing attack on the technology billionaire from the United States (US).

In his post, Podolyak said that by not allowing Ukrainian drones to attack Russian warships, Musk was allowing this fleet to fire Kalibr missiles at Ukrainian cities. Actions he said resulted in the deaths of civilians and children.

Responding to quotes in the book, Elon Musk on Friday (8/9) said he rejected the request, saying he was afraid of being involved in a major act of war.

In a post on

“The goal is clearly to sink most of the Russian fleet at anchor,” Musk wrote.

“If I agree to their request, then SpaceX will be explicitly involved in a major act of war and conflict escalation,” he continued.

MOSCOW – The authority Russia holding local elections this weekend in the region Ukraine occupied in an effort to tighten Moscow’s grip over the region.

Voting for Russia-created legislative bodies in the Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions began and ended on Sunday.

The vote is scheduled for the same weekend as other local elections in Russia. In the occupied territories, early voting began last week as election officials went door to door or set up makeshift polling stations in public places to attract passersby.

The party competing in this election is the United Russia Party, a party loyal to Putin that dominates Russian politics, although other parties, such as the Communist Party and the nationalist Liberal Democrat party, also took part in the election.

For some residents of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions, much of which has been controlled by Russian-backed separatists since 2014, the vote was nothing unusual.

“Over the last nine years, we have been trying to get closer to Russia, and Russian politicians are very familiar to us,” said Sergei, a resident of the occupied city of Luhansk, as quoted by The Associated PressFriday (8/9/2023).

He asked that his last name be withheld for security reasons.

“We speak Russian and have long felt part of Russia, and this election only confirms that,” he stressed.

Some voters in Donetsk shared Sergei’s sentiments, expressing love for Russia and saying they wanted to be part of the country.
