OSLO – North Korea (North Korea) might be able to increase its supply of artillery ammunition Russia for war on Ukraine , but it’s unlikely to make a big difference. This was stated by General United States of America (AS), Mark Milley.

This was expressed by the Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff when he arrived in Norway to attend a NATO meeting which begins on Saturday and will partly focus on the conflict.

The US Army general said a meeting between North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and Russian President Vladimir Putin might lead to North Korea providing Soviet-era 152 mm artillery shells to Moscow. But he said it was not clear how much or how fast.

“Will there be a big difference? I’m skeptical of that,” Milley told reporters who accompanied him, as quoted from Al ArabiyaSunday (17/9/2023).

He said that while he didn’t want to downplay gun assistance: “I doubt it would (be a) determining factor.”

Foreign governments and experts speculate that Kim Jong-un may supply ammunition to Russia in exchange for receiving weapons or advanced technology from Russia.

Milley and defense chiefs from NATO countries will meet at the Holmenkollen ski area on the edge of Oslo over the next few days to discuss support for Ukraine and other regional defense issues.

From Oslo, Milley will attend the Ukrainian Defense Contact Group’s monthly meeting in Germany on Tuesday. The group, led by US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, is the main international forum for mobilizing military support for Ukraine.

OPTYNES – A total of 27 soldiers Russia reportedly killed and dozens of others injured recently as a result of artillery attacks from their own military on battlefields in eastern Ukraine.

Yuriy Myiagin, a member of the Ukrainian Parliament, wrote about the “backfire” incident on Telegram on September 10.

Kyiv Post on Thursday (14/9/2023) reported that blogger Russian military and Ukrainian sources have confirmed Myiagin’s report.

The deadly incident reportedly occurred in Optyne, a village in the Donetsk region, eastern Ukraine.

Donetsk has been the scene of heavy fighting in a counteroffensive launched by the Ukrainian military since early June.

Institution think tank The Institute for the Study of War (ISW) wrote on Wednesday that Kyiv forces had recently achieved at least partial success in a number of Donetsk settlements, including near the long-contested town of Bakhmut.

Mysiagin wrote that the Russian troops at Optyne withdrew to new positions in disarray and almost panic when other Russian troops mistook those fleeing for Ukrainian troops.

As a result, the artillery attack was ordered by the operator drone against the fleeing Russian soldiers.

SEVASTOPOL – Ukraine used British-supplied Storm Shadow cruise missiles in a significant attack on the Black Sea Fleet headquarters Russia in Crimea, Wednesday (13/9/2023) early morning. The missiles hit Moscow’s warships and submarines.

This attack on a Moscow submarine was the first in the Russia-Ukraine war which began on February 24, 2022.

Ukrainian and Western sources said that British Storm Shadow cruise missiles had been used in these attacks. “It was Storm Shadow,” one source told Sky News.

Images of the attack posted on social media showed explosions and flames burning through the shipyard while the sky was still dark in the early hours of Wednesday.

Russia said 10 cruise missiles were fired at the military facility, and seven of them were shot down by air defense systems. It was stated that the attack carried out by three unmanned ships was also thwarted.

Ukraine confirmed that the attack hit Russian Navy targets and port infrastructure in the Crimean city of Sevastopol. However, the Kyiv military has not officially revealed the tactics of this major attack.

Lieutenant General Mykola Oleschuk, head of the Ukrainian Air Force, posted a picture of the burning shipyard on social media with the caption: “While the passengers are having a difficult time in Sevastopol, let’s thank the Ukrainian Air Force for their brilliant work.”

Britain provided Storm Shadow missiles to the Ukrainian Armed Forces earlier this year. The weapon is capable of being fired by Ukrainian aircraft at a range of more than 150 miles.

China Demands Clarification from Ukraine on Accusations Regarding National Interests

BEIJING – China demanded clarification from Kiev after the President’s advisor Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, Mykhailo Podolyak, said the authorities in Beijing and New Delhi were not smart enough to know what their countries’ national interests really were.

Podolyak said the two major Asian countries have “low intellectual potential,” in an interview with the Vlast vs Vaschenko channel published Tuesday on YouTube.

Talking about increasing cooperation between Beijing and New Delhi with Moscow amidst the conflict in Ukraine, he claimed that China and India did not analyze the consequences of the steps they took.

Furthermore, Podolyak accused China, India and also Turkey of “making money” from the conflict between Moscow and Kiev.

“Chinese authorities believe that doing so is in their country’s national interests, but Beijing would be better off distancing itself from Russia because it is an old-fashioned country that is dragging China into unnecessary conflicts,” he said.

When asked to comment on Podolyak’s statement at a briefing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Mao Ning said: “I don’t know the background of this person’s statement, but he should clarify it,” as quoted by RTWednesday (13/9/2023)

Mao reminded reporters that Beijing has always maintained a “responsible” attitude towards the conflict in Ukraine, constantly calling for a cessation of hostilities and a political resolution to the crisis.

Podolyak himself later took to X, formerly Twitter, to explain what he meant by questioning the intellectual capabilities of China and India. He claims his comments were taken out of context by Russian media.

Russia’s Artillery Production Falls Short for War in Ukraine: Western Estimates

MOSCOW – Russia may be able to increase artillery production in the next few years to around 2 million shells per year. Moscow could increase that production by about twice as much as previous estimates by Western countries.

“But Russia is still far from meeting the needs of Moscow’s war in Ukraine,” said a Western official, quoted by Reuters.

The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, estimated Russia fired between 10 million and 11 million rounds last year in Ukraine. Moscow launched its invasion in February 2022.

“That’s the difficulty they’re facing,” the official told a small group of journalists.

“If you put out 10 million rounds last year and you’re in the middle of the fight and you can only make 1 to 2 million rounds a year, I don’t think that’s a strong position.”

Other Russian investments in the defense sector also allow Moscow to produce nearly 200 tanks per year, double previous Western estimates. But it also, the official said, is far from what is needed after suffering heavy losses in Ukraine.

“When you lose 2,000 tanks, you have a decade before you start,” the official said. He added that Russia had also lost 4,000 armored fighting vehicles, more than 100 aircraft and suffered 270,000 casualties in the conflict, including both troops killed and wounded.

The Russian Embassy in Washington did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
