WASHINGTON – United States of America (US) for the umpteenth time has once again licked its own lips regarding military assistance to Ukraine . After previously refusing to send ATACMS long-range missiles to Ukraine, now the decision has reportedly turned 180 degrees.

A number of US media reported that President Joe Biden plans to provide the advanced long-range missiles to Ukraine to help Kiev’s ongoing counterattack.

They quoted US officials familiar with the matter as saying Ukraine would get several ATACMS missiles with a range of up to 300 km.

This would allow Kiev to hit Russian targets far behind the front lines.

NBC News and The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) quoted unnamed US officials as saying that President Biden told his Ukrainian colleague Volodymyr Zelensky that Kiev would get a “small number” of ATACMS missiles.

The two leaders met at the White House on Thursday.

WSJ added that the weapons will be shipped in the coming weeks.

Meanwhile, the Washington Post quoted several people familiar with the discussions as saying that Ukraine would arm ATACMS with cluster bombs, not single warheads as quoted from BBCSaturday (23/9/2023).

MOSCOW – Moscow criticizes war games NATO which will be held in 2024 as a provocative maneuver and preparation for military confrontation with Russia.

The “Steadfast Defender” war exercise will be the largest maneuver by the United States (US)-led alliance since the Cold War.

“These provocative exercises are clearly aggressive,” said Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Aleksandr Grushko, as quoted RTThursday (21/9/2023).

The reason, said Grushko, was that the planned maneuver was an attempt at military-political pressure.

“Scenario [latihan perang tersebut] formulated in such a way that there is no doubt that this is part of the preparations for military confrontation with Russia,” Grushko said.

“This is another deliberate step towards destabilizing the situation in northern Europe.”

He added that Moscow would do everything necessary to guarantee the security of its borders.

Grushko’s remarks came after NATO announced that next year’s Steadfast Defender exercise would be the largest joint exercise the alliance has undertaken since the Cold War.

KIEV – A report says if Ukraine had rejected 10 Leopard 1A tanks from German . It is not without reason that Ukraine rejected these tanks. The reason is, the condition of the tanks is very bad because they require repairs and Ukraine does not have the technicians and spare parts to repair them.

“Authorities in Kiev refused to import the Leopard 1A group of tanks on the grounds that they require significant repairs,” German newspaper der Speigel reported on Tuesday. InsiderThursday (21/9/2023).

According to the outlet, Ukraine lacks the spare parts and technical expertise to repair it.

Germany has committed to sending 110 tanks to Ukraine as part of a $2.9 billion military aid package announced in the spring. Most of these are Leopard 1A tanks, the first of which began arriving in July, The New York Times (NYT) reported.

After Germany’s announcement, der Spiegel reported, its troops were immediately tasked with repairing the tanks that had been stored, and Ukraine sent troops to be trained in their use.

“However, in the rush to get the tanks into battle, problems arose in getting the right spare parts, and training Ukrainian technicians to carry out repairs,” the outlet reported.

The German Defense Ministry did not immediately respond to Insider’s request for comment, and a spokesperson for Defense Minister Boris Pistorius declined to comment on the case to Der Speigel.

However, its launch issues have been well documented.

NEW YORK – President United States of America (AS) Joe Biden says world must stand against “naked aggression” Russia and support the Ukrainian people.

Speaking before the UN General Assembly, he said that Moscow alone bears responsibility for the war, obstructing peace, and has the power to immediately end the conflict.

The US president then urged UN members to continue supporting Ukraine because failure to do this would allow Russia to carry out brutal actions against the country without compromise.

“If we allow Ukraine to disintegrate, will the independence of any country be guaranteed? I respectfully suggest the answer is no – we must stand up to this blatant aggression today, and deter potential aggressors in the future,” Biden said as quoted by Sky NewsTuesday (19/9/2023).

He vowed that the US would continue to support the Ukrainian people in defending its sovereignty, territorial integrity and freedoms.

The US president’s remarks drew applause from the UN delegation, including his Ukrainian colleague Volodymyr Zelensky, who was in the audience.

In his wide-ranging speech, Biden warned that the world is at an inflection point in history and no country can face today’s challenges alone.

“Our future is tied to your future,” he shouted.

Training and Tactics Failures in Ukraine’s Counterattack against Russia: Analysis and Implications

KIEV – Training provided by United States of America (US) and other Western countries to troops Ukraine had not prepared them to carry out a counterattack against the troops Russia . That’s what a report published by the Financial Times said last Friday, citing Western analysts and military sources.

“So far, Ukraine has not achieved the desired decisive breakthrough,” a source told the outlet as quoted from RTSunday (17/9/2023).

The same source added that some Western officials believe that Kiev has failed to seize the opportunities offered by massive Western military aid at a time of possibly peak political support.

Some US officials privately complained that Ukrainian troops failed during training to master modern operations combining mechanized infantry, artillery and air defense.

The source claimed the losses Ukraine suffered at the start of the offensive were reportedly “unsustainable, and amounted to almost a fifth of the equipment NATO provided for the counteroffensive” in late May and early June alone. The setback forced Kiev to change tactics and return to an attritional approach.

“Ukrainian forces found it impossible to follow NATO’s doctrine of combined arms warfare involving coordinated actions by infantry, armored vehicles, artillery and air defense,” the newspaper said.

The Financial Times added that the Kiev military still finds it difficult to carry out operations above company (200 people) or even platoon (20-50) level.

According to analysts interviewed by the FT, Western training of Ukrainian troops was “too short” and insufficiently adapted to conditions on the battlefield.
