New peace talks between Russia and Ukraine are scheduled for Wednesday, July 23, 2025, following two previous rounds in Istanbul that yielded minimal progress in resolving the ongoing conflict.Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed the upcoming discussions.
“Today, I discussed with (Ukrainian Security council chief) Rustem Umerov the preparations for the exchange and another meeting in Turkiye with the Russian side. Umerov reported that the meeting is scheduled for Wednesday,” Mr. Zelenskyy stated in his daily address on Monday, July 21, 2025.
Further details are expected to be released on Tuesday, July 22, 2025.
The previous diplomatic engagements in Istanbul on May 16 and june 2, held amidst pressure from the United States to secure a ceasefire, did not result in any critically important breakthroughs, despite the efforts of U.S. President Donald Trump.
To date, Ukrainian and Russian negotiators have only reached an agreement on prisoner exchanges. As these talks, Russia has intensified its aerial bombardments of Ukraine and expanded its control over frontline territories.
Russia’s demands include Ukraine ceding four additional regions beyond Crimea, which it annexed in 2014. The Kremlin also insists that Ukraine abandon any aspirations of joining the NATO military alliance.
Ukraine has rejected these demands and has expressed skepticism regarding Russia’s genuine desire for a ceasefire.
Following President Trump’s recent ultimatum to Russia, setting a 50-day deadline for negotiating a deal or facing substantial sanctions, and his subsequent renewal of arms supplies to Ukraine, the Kremlin indicated its readiness for further negotiations.

The earlier discussions saw both sides present their perspectives on the potential framework of a peace agreement, though significant divergences remain.
“A lot of diplomatic work lies ahead,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov commented to reporters earlier on Monday regarding the prospects for a resolution.
