Rare Bone Disease Leaves 37-Year-Old Man with Bones of an 80-Year-Old, Successful Surgery Offers Hope
Hanoi, Vietnam – A 37-year-old man in Vietnam is recovering after surgery to address a rare disease that left his bones as fragile adn weak as those of an 80-year-old. The case highlights the importance of early diagnosis for uncommon musculoskeletal conditions and the potential for successful intervention even in severe instances.The patient,identified as M., suffered from debilitating bone and joint pain for an extended period before receiving a diagnosis. The condition caused notable bone damage, impacting his ability to walk and perform daily activities. Doctors determined the patient’s bones were severely compromised, necessitating surgical intervention. A team of physicians successfully removed a tumor contributing to the bone weakness, and the patient is now showing promising signs of recovery.
Following the operation, the patient’s health stabilized, and blood phosphate levels improved dramatically within a week. Six weeks post-surgery, his blood phosphoric acid levels have returned to normal, and he is experiencing reduced pain, improved sleep, and increased mobility – now able to walk indoors without crutches.
“due to serious bone damage, the patient requires at least 3 to 12 months to restore the bones,” explained Dr.Ban, a physician involved in the case. “During this period,the patient must follow the treatment plan,including calcium supplements,active vitamin D intake,and nutritional betterment.”
Nguyen Thi Van, a master’s degree holder, emphasizes the importance of seeking medical attention for persistent bone and joint pain. She recommends individuals experiencing prolonged discomfort or unusual symptoms consult a musculoskeletal specialist for prompt diagnosis and treatment to prevent delays in care.
