Oscar Race: Voters Now Sworn to See the Films – Underdog Chances & Final Predictions

by Julia Evans – Entertainment Editor February 27, 2026
written by Julia Evans – Entertainment Editor

Ballots are now in the hands of nearly 10,000 members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences, with a deadline of March 5th to submit their votes for the 98th Annual Academy Awards, set to take place on March 15, 2026. This year’s Oscar race has been unusually protracted, beginning almost eleven months prior with the April 17, 2025, release of “Sinners,” which garnered a record-breaking 16 nominations.

The Academy has implemented a new policy requiring voters to attest they have viewed all nominated films, either in theaters, through the Academy’s digital screening room, or by other means. This measure, according to sources within the Academy, aims to address concerns that a limited number of films dominate the nominations due to incomplete viewership among voters. The Television Academy has employed similar, though less formalized, systems in the past.

This year’s nominations reflect a concentrated field, with just 30 films represented across 20 categories, excluding short film and documentary feature categories. Half of those 30 titles received only a single nomination. Eliminating the Animated Feature and Makeup/Hairstyling categories further narrows the field to just 15 films with multiple nominations, indicating a significant disparity in attention among contenders.

The shift towards fewer films dominating the nominations has prompted the Academy to seek greater transparency from its members. The new attestation requirement is intended to level the playing field, though its effectiveness remains to be seen. The success of a campaign, or the backing of a distributor like Neon – which secured four of the five nominations in the Best International Film category – remains a significant advantage for contenders.

The acting categories demonstrate this concentration particularly starkly. Eleven of the twenty acting nominations are attributed to just three films: “One Battle After Another” (4 nominations), “Sentimental Value” (4 nominations), and “Sinners” (3 nominations). The Academy’s voting process allows individual branches to nominate, but the final vote is cast by the entire Academy, provided members verify they have seen the nominated films. This gives nominees from widely recognized films a distinct advantage.

Despite the odds, several actors are hoping to overcome the limitations of lesser-known films. Ethan Hawke has received praise for his performance in “Blue Moon,” but the film only received two nominations. Kate Hudson’s performance in “Song Sung Blue” is supported by a campaign from Focus Features, but she faces strong competition from Jessie Buckley in “Hamnet,” also distributed by Focus Features. Rose Byrne, nominated for “If I Had Legs I’d Kick You,” is hoping to leverage wins at the Golden Globes and Indie Spirits, despite her film’s limited visibility. Amy Madigan, nominated for “Weapons,” is the sole representative of that film, a horror title that rarely garners Oscar attention.

Historically, winning an acting Oscar with a single nomination is rare. Forest Whitaker was the last Best Actor winner with a single nomination, for “The Last King of Scotland” in 2006. Julianne Moore achieved the same feat in 2014 with “Still Alice.” Penelope Cruz won Best Supporting Actress for “Vicki Cristina Barcelona” in 2007, a film from a director with a strong track record at the Academy.

Oscar voting continues through Thursday, March 5th at 5pm PT. The 98th Annual Academy Awards will air on ABC and Hulu at 4:00pm PT/7:00pm ET on Sunday, March 15, 2026.

Oscar Phase 2: Must‑Watch Films and Predictions for 2026 Oscars

by Julia Evans – Entertainment Editor January 31, 2026
written by Julia Evans – Entertainment Editor

this looks like a snippet of HTML code, likely from a webpage displaying predictions or contestants in a contest (possibly related to awards, like the Golden Derby). Let’s break down what it represents:

Overall Structure:

The code consists of two main div elements with the class _predictionsContestantItem_.... Each of these represents a single contestant or item being predicted upon. They are likely arranged in a list or grid on the webpage.

First Contestant Item (Come See Me in the Good Light):

* <figure> Tag: This contains the image and related attributes.
* <img> Tag: this is the actual image tag.
* src: The source URL of the image: https://www.goldderby.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Come-See-Me-in-the-good-Light.jpg
* srcset: This is a crucial attribute for responsive images. It provides a list of different image sizes and their corresponding widths (w) for different screen sizes. The browser will choose the most appropriate image based on the user’s device and screen resolution. For example:
* %2C150 150w: A version of the image that’s 150 pixels wide.
* https://www.goldderby.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Come-See-Me-in-the-Good-Light.jpg?w=50&amp;h=50&amp;crop=1&amp;resize=100%2C100 100w: A 100×100 pixel version.
* sizes: This attribute tells the browser how the image will be displayed at different viewport sizes.
* auto: Let the browser decide the best size.
* (max-width: 50px) 100vw: if the viewport is 50px or less, the image should take up 100% of the viewport width.
* 50px: Or else, the image should be displayed at 50px width.
* loading="lazy": This tells the browser to only load the image when it’s near the viewport (lazy loading), improving page performance.
* decoding="async": Allows the browser to decode the image asynchronously, further improving performance.
* fetchpriority="auto": Lets the browser decide the priority of fetching this image.
* data-attachment-id="1206381592": A data attribute likely used by the website’s backend to identify the image.
* data-wp-size="nova_size__onebyone_tiny_cropped": Indicates the image size and cropping settings used within WordPress (likely the CMS used for the website).
* The image is of something called “Come See Me in the Good Light”.
* <div data-alias="predictions-contestant-item__titles">: This contains the title of the contestant/item.
* <p>Come see Me in the Good Light</p>: The title itself.

Second Contestant Item:

* The second div with the class _predictionsContestantItem_... is similar in structure, but it’s incomplete in the provided snippet. It starts with a div with the class _contestant_... and contains a span with the class _contestantIndex_... and a <p> tag. The content of this second item is cut off.

In Summary:

This HTML code is used to display a list of contestants or items in a prediction contest. It uses responsive image techniques (srcset and sizes) to ensure the images look good on different devices. The loading="lazy" attribute helps improve page load times. The data-* attributes are used for internal website functionality. The website is likely built using WordPress.

Rose Byrne Reveals Why Her Husband Missed Her Golden Globe Win: Bearded Dragon, Reptile Expo

by Julia Evans – Entertainment Editor January 14, 2026
written by Julia Evans – Entertainment Editor

Rose⁢ Byrne’s⁢ Golden Globe Win and Bobby Cannavale’s⁣ Unexpected ‍Absence

Rose Byrne ‍delivered a charming and‍ humorous acceptance speech at the 2026 Golden Globes, ‍taking home the award for⁤ Best Performance by a⁤ Female Actor ‍in a Motion picture for her‍ role in “If I Had Legs I’d‌ Kick you.” ‍However, the celebration was ⁢slightly unconventional, as her husband, acclaimed actor ⁣bobby Cannavale, was noticeably absent. The reason? A commitment to a ⁢far more scaled – and scaled-up – pursuit: acquiring a new family pet.

A Reptilian Priority

During her acceptance speech,⁣ Byrne‌ explained Cannavale’s absence with a delightful twist. “I want‌ to thank my husband, ‍Bobby Cannavale, who couldn’t be here because we are⁣ getting a bearded dragon and he went to a reptile expo in New Jersey,” she ‌shared with the audience, adding a ⁢heartfelt, “Thank you, ⁣baby!” This‍ anecdote quickly became a talking point, highlighting the couple’s down-to-earth nature and playful dynamic.

the⁣ Byrne-Cannavale Family

Byrne and ⁢Cannavale have been a‍ celebrated couple in Hollywood for years,⁢ known for‌ their talent and their commitment to family life. They share two sons,Rocco and Rafael. Cannavale is also a father to Jake, from his previous marriage to Jenny Lumet People‌ Magazine. The addition of a bearded dragon to the‌ family clearly demonstrates their willingness to embrace new adventures – and cater to the⁤ interests of‍ their children.

The Rising Popularity of Reptile⁢ Keeping

cannavale’s‍ dedication to ‌finding ‍the perfect bearded dragon speaks to a‌ growing trend in⁣ pet ownership. Reptiles, particularly bearded‍ dragons, have seen a surge in popularity in recent years. According to the Association of Reptilian and Amphibian Veterinarians‍ (ARAV), the number of households owning‍ reptiles has steadily increased ⁣over the past decade, driven by factors like their relatively low maintenance, hypoallergenic qualities, and‍ unique personalities.ARAV

why ⁢bearded Dragons?

Bearded dragons are frequently‌ enough favored as ⁤first-time reptile pets due to their docile nature‍ and relatively simple care requirements. They require a specific habitat with controlled temperature and humidity, a ‌varied diet of insects and vegetables, and regular UVB exposure. However, their calm‍ demeanor and interactive personalities make ⁤them⁣ rewarding companions. The reptile expos, like the‍ one Cannavale attended, provide a venue for breeders and enthusiasts to‌ connect and showcase healthy, well-cared-for animals.

Hollywood’s Family Values

The story‌ of Cannavale ‌prioritizing a reptile expo over a major awards show resonated ⁤with⁣ many, offering a glimpse into the couple’s genuine connection and ‍commitment⁤ to their ‍family. It’s a refreshing reminder that even amidst ⁣the glitz and⁢ glamour of Hollywood, everyday family life – and the ⁢pursuit of a perfect⁣ pet – remains ⁢a priority. Byrne’s acceptance speech, filled with humor and ⁣gratitude, perfectly encapsulated this sentiment, solidifying her⁣ win as a memorable moment of the evening.

Looking ‌Ahead

As Rose Byrne continues⁢ to shine in her career and Bobby Cannavale embraces his new role as a bearded dragon dad, the couple ⁤continues to demonstrate a⁤ balance between ⁢professional success ⁢and personal‍ fulfillment. ⁢Their story serves ‍as⁢ a heartwarming ‌reminder that sometimes,‍ the most important moments happen ‍outside the spotlight, in the pursuit of ⁤simple ⁣joys ⁣and family ⁢adventures.
