Woman, 78, dies Following Fall at Stockport Care โฃHome
STOCKPORT, England – A 78-year-old womanโ died inโฃ hospital onโ Monday, September โ29, after a fallโค at Berrycroft Manor care homeโข on Berrycroft Lane, Stockport. Greater manchester Police (GMP) responded to reports of a concern for the woman’s welfare shortly after 7:30 am.
The incident hasโค prompted โฃinvestigations by both GMP and the Care โquality Commission โ(CQC). A GMPโฃ spokesperson stated,โข “Shortly after 7.30am โyesterday (September 29), officers responded to reports of a โconcern for the welfare of a woman followingโค a fall at a care home on Berrycroft Lane, Stockport.โข Emergency services attended but sadly, a 78-year-old woman died from her injuries in hospital later that day.Her family โขare currently being supported. Enquiries โare ongoing toโ establish the โขfull circumstances of her death.”
Berrycroft โฃManor was last inspected by the CQC in September 2024 and received a “good” โขrating. The regulator confirmedโข it isโข in contact with โboth the careโข home and GMP regarding the incident.
A CQC spokesperson said: “CQC has been made aware of the death ofโค a resident at Berrycroft Manor in โฃStockport,and our condolences are with the โคfamily at this sad time.We are inโ closeโ contactโข with theโ home โand police as โฃthey look into the circumstances around this incident, so โขwe canโ understandโ if there is any regulatory action that needs taken to ensure people are โreceiving safe care.”
The care home itself โคstated, “Safety here is paramountโ and we are working with HSE [Health and Safety Executive] and CQC โto โensure this never โขhappens again.”
