Players are media trained for a reason and previous comments can negatively impact the future of a playerโs career.
The Reds have had some fierce rivalries over the years and one that will stick out in the minds of many will be Real Madrid.
The Spanish giants have handed Liverpool fans so much pain over recent years and after beating them in two Champions League finals in five years, the bitterness will still be there.
Trent Alexander-Arnold moving on a free transfer would not have helped that matter, however, especially as he was a key part in both those losses at the hands of Madrid.
The 2018 final is, arguably, the one that hurt the most as Mohamed Salah was forced off due to an early injury, something he wanted revenge for when they met again four years later.
Madrid winger Rodrygo had other ideas, though, and the comments he made about the Egyptian after beating Liverpool for the second time suggest he is not welcome at Anfield this summer.
Rodrygo was desperate to โmake funโ of Mohamed Salah
If there is one thing that can be said about Liverpool fans, it is that they are fiercely loyal, and even if it is just one thing, they will never forget.
So, when a player for a rival team takes a swipe at one of their players, they will instantly be disliked, especially if the dig is towards Salah.
This is what Rodrygo did back in 2022 after clinching yet another Champions League trophy, with the Brazilian not a fan of Salah saying that he wanted โrevengeโ from 2018.
โWhen a guy provokes, sometimes you just want to win so you can make fun of them,โ Rodrygo said on the Podpah Podcast in 2022.

โIn training we used to say โcome Salah, come Salahโโฆ in our head it was already โwe have to win to then make fun of Salahโ.โ
It may have all been a bit of fun back then and maybe even a bit of mind games, but publicly admitting it will already make Liverpool fans very hard to win over.
Rodrygo has been a target for a while and links have re-emerged this summer as the Brazilian looks set to depart the Bernabeu, although his previous comments suggest there may be a bit of tension between him and Salah if he does join.
Luka Modric also made fun of Mohamed Salah
Liverpool and Madrid do not exactly get on so it is understandable that there will be a few exchanges of words when the two meet on the pitch, although you would expect it more from some than others.
Luka Modric is not a player who most would think would get involved, although Rodrygo also confirmed that the Croatian made him laugh following a comment he said to Salah after Liverpoolโs loss in 2022.
โโWhen the game was over, the Real Madrid players made a runner, Liverpool went through,โ Rodrygo said in the same interview.
โSalah was going through a little sad, head down, Modric looked at him and said, โThanks, Salah, next time you try againโ. I started laughing.โ
The respect for one of the Premier Leagueโs greatest ever players is clearly not there but Salah will likely not care too much and just continue to carry on as normal, although bringing the Brazilian in may cause a little bit of tension.
